My 86 200x is almost done at the shop and I will be getting it back in a few weeks. I was wondering on how to title this thing if I even can. I live in Illinois. When I bought it I didn't get a title or even a bill of sale. The only reason I want a title is if it happens to get stolen and I need proof of ownership. Would it be worth messing with? I am gonna put some money in this and want to protect it the best I can.

You didn't get a bill of sale? May I ask why you didn't?

A bill of sale is just a reciept. If you are happy with your trike its moot.
Anyway, contact your DMV. It takes a simple process of bonding and inspection. Asking here will only get you mounds of speculation from people in different states. Even people in the same city will have varied experiences attempting to title a trike. Talking about it wont get it done.

Got my 84 200x with no title or bill of sale. Took 3 dmv trips and one chp, but titled and green sticker. I think it's worth it imo just to be safe.

Just a thought. What would happen if for some reason they ran the serial/vin number and it came back stolen from years ago?? This thing has probably been floating around for a while in it's long life. I wouldn't want to get in trouble or lose the damn thing. I think I will just keep it locked in the garage and to be extra safe get a bigass log chain and chain it down to something massive...lol

That works if you never ride it beyond your own property, but some day some where that vin is gonna get run, stolen or not if your name isn't on it then the questions start flying. Happened to a friend of mine, what a mess to straighten it out, his 250ES got impounded for three months while the paperwork was sorted.
