View Full Version : Honda 200s Clutch Slip in Higher Gears??

When shifting through the gears, the clutch seems to slip from the bottom of 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Grabs good from a stop though. I did a clutch adjustment but that only helped slightly. Now if I'm correct, does this mean my secondary clutch may need new disc's and springs, or is it the primary that's shot??

hello;
unfortunately it could be either.
it works ok in first because there is less tq/load on the clutch due to the gear ratio.
o would replace them both with orig honda parts.
if you are on a budget, one option is to remove the fiber and metal discs and springs aneasure them accirding to the manual. if they are in spec simply sand the metal plates lightly with wet 400 sandpaper.
buy some "AN" style washers or copper brake line washers and put one under each bolt for the springs.
remove the centrifugal shoes and inspect the inside of the drum. if it has big.deep grooves it is wasted and should be replaced or welded and machined.
use only motorcycle or atv oil. do not use car oil.
if it still slips, it is likely your centrifugal clutch.

I ordered new clutch disc's and springs for it. Hopefully that's all it is. I will inspect the centrifugal clutch when I take it apart

both my auto-x and my 185s turned into a chopper had the same issue. when cold, slipped in 3rd and up, when they got warm, they would go fine. once I replaced friction plates and springs they were like new motors. the centrifugal clutch shoes were fine, had about as much material on them as the new one I bought. never replaced it. my auto-x has 10.25 200x piston and camshaft and I never new it was as fast as it is until I swapped those parts. I recommend new clutch plates out the gate for any auto motor out there.
