I have a 200x I rebuilt the motor and was ripping it all winter with skat traks,I felt a little heat but never thought much about it..Now I got her back out and went for a little 5-10 min ride on back dirt roads, when I got home I checked it rite away and it gets over 300.. I put a new set of stock rings in with a lite hone,xr200 cam,new gaskets with seals, lapped the valves..It still has a cobra megaphone exhaust and clean uni filter in the stock air box with lid.....the 1 long bolt for the head under the CDI-pulse generator broke, that wouldn't do it rite? thanks. I NEVER got stuck ONCE! 193923193926193925193924

I mean the engine does get hot enough to give you a third degree burn trust me I know. What type of gas are you running if you are running to high of an octane Gas it can make your engine get really hot. one time my cousins 250sx Was running racing fuel and it started to melt his front fender.

I have been using regular but might use premium fuel..I just took the motor out and apart now to get the broken bolt out..The head gasket is leaking a little now,Do you think I might have warped the head now? I might just lap the head and jug again with new gaskets again anyway... I still don't know why its that hot or even if over 300 is ok..thanks.

Heads run way hotter than cylinders. If your head is 300F I think you're going good. If it's your jug, well lets just say I'd be concerned.

..........Yep,middle of the jug under the spark plug.
Under the plug lives the combustion chamber, second hottest spot on the engine.

What temp would you say is good for that spot and where should I read the temp at? thanks.

Sounds hot and lean to me. Re jet before you do too much damage.

I did re jet it after I put the cobra on it but before I did the new rings and xr cam then this happened....But I will check the jets again, time and plugs for a peace of mind is worth it. what would you say is a good temp to run? thanks.

So I have to ask, what was the temperature over the winter? I assume you are comparing 300 to a lower temperature or are you comparing 300 degrees to nothing?
And..of course its going to feel hotter in the summer, in those pictures you basically dipped the motor in an ice block....big temp difference. I have burned my right leg on my 200x exhaust header so many times I have lost count.
