Picked this up a couple days ago, should be a fun project. It is missing some key parts, but there is a guy local who has one built and running. I will need to fab the subframe, front axle spacers, and rotor adapter.
Last night got it out of the truck and on some tires/wheels to roll it around. It will get torn down and I am already on the hunt for another CR500 to enable a nice come up to its former glory.

Mike, I recently saw some atc500 frames and stuff on Craig's here, and I think just a couple days ago somebody had a running cr500 take out motor for sale so you might wanna hop on to CL and give it a look. I'm sure you already have though.....
Cool project!

I'll be keeping an eye on this - reminds me of my very first 500 build, I started off with a laeger 500 kit that was in about the same shape. Super nice find Mike!

Is that a Honda CR 500 frame modified into a 3-wheeler or did Laeger build the entire frame?

Laeger offered a kit consisting of triple trees for the CR500 forks, a subframe with flip setup for the seat, and a custom swingarm. Used the original frame and otherwise same components.

Need to throw out some THANKS to xowner, he sent me a link on my phone and it took some time to get ahold of the owners. Also cbx1170, he was working on trying to procure it and was unable to come to a deal with the previous owners. I will do it right for sure!!

Some people call rust............"patina"!!! As rough as it looks, when I was removing the swingarm bolt I sneezed and it went flying out, it was AWESOME.

I have been looking for a nice candidate to start with. Like this ------------->http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/mcy/5527931552.html
I have too many projects going on at once, need to focus on my nick 500, then my PK 70, then this is next......sometime around 2020 should be about right.
That would be a nice candidate for the conversion. Having an older CR I've become pretty partial to these bikes and would hate to see one hacked up, but that Laeger's kit in your hands would be a great conversion.

There really isn't much hacking required if I recall. I thought the purpose of the kit was also to be reversible if need be? Damn that dirt bike in the ad is NICE. I always wanted one. I rode a CR500 once ever back in 1989 or so. I was about 19 and I remember thinking it was scary as f$%k

Yes it's completely reversible. That's why it wouldn't bother me to see it as a trike. Most guys hack the hell out of these older CR'S and they're lost forever.

The kit was for 1987 and up otherwise you have rear brake issues that are tough to reverse.

Good point, I totally forgot about the rear drum on the 85-86.

Me thinks in my humble opinion that that 500 needs to stay right where it is... until Mr. C decides I should own it for real cheap :naughty: Sure would be nice to see the Japanese big bore smokers return one day with modern technology all around the piston...
Hell, I'd love to own the two wheeled version, let alone the trike. Although I have zero use for either, especially the trike.

If that was my bike I'd go out of my way to find some very steep sand hills. I'd also take great pleasure in roosting every 450 4 joke that dared drive up next to me.:Bounce
