This is how my 250r tank look. Was perfect before the ride, look like this after 2 hour....The tank was sun faded, sanded and polished.Probably wayyyy too faded.....
woah! ... i've polished a few tanks but they were yamaha tanks. thats funky... im thinking that the plastic has changed from the years of UV light, temps slowly climbing due to cow flatulence (global warming), cell phone radiation from your pocket, and the ""affordable" health care act"... seriously tho. thats odd. me being the way i am (aka cheap), I would try and sand it down again and see what happens :). I diiiiid have a YTM200K fender that looked about the same as that tank once I had sanded through most of the oxidation. and there was a TON of it. It took a while but i was able to sand through the cracked surface type material and down into some good stuff, and then buff buff buff. what a PITA.
difference is... mine didnt crack after. the cracks were there the whole time just under a few millimeters of plastic cancer. but yamaha plastic is different then honda i've heard. could be wrong.

Might consider having a fabricator make you a tank out of aluminum. Wouldn't look the same but wouldn't crack either. It'd be a nice custom look. Thats what I'm going to do with my 200es Big Red fenders since they are hard to find and probably cost me the same. With as many custom chopper builders out there they might be able to replicate the tank pretty close. Just a thought.

The cracks are deep,I'm surprised the tank doesn't leak.I thnik about a aluminium custom tank,I built one for the cr500af,so maybe a day a tank for the 250r. This one is now a display tank on the shelf
