Hey all, I just got an 86 Tri Z 250, the clutch arm on the crank case is really sloppy and loose. Is it possible to fix this from the outside or do i have to split the crank case and get in there?
Thanks!

Hi, you don't need to split the cases but you need to remove the clutch cover to access the pushrod adjustment. The clutch arm comes out strait up, all you have under there is a seal and needle bearing. http://www.partzilla.com/parts/search/Yamaha/ATV/1986/TRI-Z+-+YTZ250S/CLUTCH/parts.html

Thanks for that, I pulled the motor and took the rod out - the arm lifted out easily and i also pulled the arm bearing cage out - with no needle bearings in it - so they are rolling around in the case! This machine was sevrerly abused so I might just put a different motor in it - any ideas which other engines fit?
Thanks!

Thanks! No ideas on a swap, but if you go back with a z motor you want to make sure its an 86, only year with a six speed!

Nothing wrong with the 85 or 85 1/2 5 speed .. just geared a little differently... Different sprockets can surely make up the difference..
The bearing and seal is like 20$. If it where me and it runs good I would throw em in change the oil and put a magnetic drain plug in and run it. If nothing else the cases for the 83-86 yz 250 were all the same and your 6 speed parts will drop right in. Even the 85 z cases will hold the 86 trans. The dirtbike cranks and jugs were different though.
