i just got a 85 atc110 and its not sparking.

i bypassed the run/kill switch
coil bench tested fine
pulse generator bench tested fine
checked timing/firing marks lined up

pulled the flywheel and it was rusted up, sanded it shiney, what i could anyway, some of it is pitted. will this be a problem?

also the top and bottom coils in the flywheel were rusted, i shined them up.

as in the manual i pulled the red/black connector off and tested resistance, and i get nothing.
says this test is for the alternator excitor coil at the top of the instructions in the manual, in the same paragraph it states if reading is not between 110-400 the alternator stator must be replaced.

thats confusing to me, is it the alternator stator or the alternator excitor coil?

when you pull the flywheel off, there are two coils there, whats the one on top called and do?
whats the bottom one do and called?

sanding the flywheel will make it look real nice, but has no effect on magnetism and should still work no matter how it looked, i find that almost always the problem is the pulser pick up coil under the flywheel, can't remember off the top of my head which one is which, the other is a lighting coil......................

Thanks, i went ahead and bought an ebay stator coil, guess ill see what happens.
It was only 12 bucks
