I just discovered, after 25 years of ownership, that my R is supposed to run on 93 octane gas. Didn't believe it until I found it in the manual. I've always used 87. Why would such a low compression ratio motor need 93? What do others run?

I run a 91 octane 100% with Castrol 927 mixed at 32:1. Stock motor with a Woods Type 6 pipe. No blended gas!!!!

Premium gas keeps your motor happy. Lower temps and better performance. It will make the piston last longer too. Its totally worth the extra cost.

always run premium!!! I cannot stress that enough.
ALSO find a fuel without ETHANOL!! ethanol is a carb killer.. There is still one or 2 places where premium doesn't have ethanol!

Why would such a low compression ratio motor need 93? What do others run?Although most people do, it's best not to think of compression ratio as the determining factor in the level of octane any engine needs to run at peak levels.

For example an engine with a "low" advertised CR may have a different flow pattern or combustion chamber design than an engine with a "high" advertised CR, and along with different static compression and other factors in design, may sometimes require a higher octane fuel to run at peak levels.

The misconception that "high" CR ALWAYS equals the need for high octane is fueled by the fact that when you increase the compression ratio on any given engine, you will very likely increase the octane requirement for THAT particular engine.

I use 91 non-ethol in all my toys. Most gas stations around my area sell the 91 non-ethol now. Iv used Cam2 115 octain in my 250rs before with no issue. And my Quadsport.

I use 91 pump gas and vp c12 50/50 mix with 32:1 yamalube. I did not want to take chance on my 86 atc 250R after I installed the 85 head gasket that raised my compression to 190lbs

How about octane boosters?

How about octane boosters?Octane boosters will only work with purple powerbands.....

Why use a cheap mystery fluid in your bike? Just buy the right fuel!
