Using quads for parts. 125m with reverse

So I picked up an trx125 with a months ago with the intention of fixing it and selling it to make a few bucks. On closer inspection the engine had gotten water in it and it needed a rebuild or replacement. I found a good used engine about an hour away for $150 bucks and drove down to get it. Well last night I started swapping the engine and got to thinking..... why don't I just swap the good trx125 engine into one of my 125m's and put the 125m engine in the trx? So that's what the plan is. Swap the engine, harness, brake/reverse lever and some other parts onto my 125m and put the trx back together with the 3 wheeler engine. Should be fun, quick and easy. This is the trx 125 ready for the engine to be pulled back out of it. I had put the engine in before realizing that there was a few more things wrong with it then I thought and it would just be better to use the trx engine in the 125m

The 125m that is getting the trx engine. Im gonna swap the trx rear tires and rear rack onto it and find a new tire for the front. But for now I just need to swap this engine. Should be in later on tonight.

Great idea. Is the trx transmission any better than the 125m trans? I heard that's the weak point on the 125m.

As for the title you have to wait till a mod is in a good mood. That's something you cannot request. They change it as they wish. Some are intended as inside jokes between those in the know, and some are not. You don't want to see what they so to guys who get banned. Lol

Im not sure but they are probably the same. That's kinda what led up to this point. The 125m will only go into first and is missing the exhaust and smokes like a freight train. The not going into first doesn't seem like it's the shift detent as is common with the 90/110/125 engine. More like the shift drum may be messed up. I may find out more when I pull the clutch side off the 125m engine to get the shift shaft for the trx engine.

Im pretty sure its the exact same motor except for the subtranny. And the sub tranny is interchangable so if both those machines were running, you could just swap that to get reverse

Yeah the both engines ran but the trans in the 125m is messed up so it was easier to swap the whole engine. Plus I don't have any gaskets to put it back together if I tore the engines apart. But it would be just as easy to swap the side covers. Only other thing is its easier to remove the harness on the 125m with the engine removed. I'm using the trx wiring that way I can use the dash with the reverse light and it will alll work and look factory.

Well It's finished. I buttoned up a few things and swapped the rear tires so I could ride it. It's pretty nice to have reverse on the smaller 3 wheelers. It's about as nice as my 87 125m. It should really turn some heads next year at Trikefest when I fire it up and start backing up lol. I'll post pics later. It's not pretty but it gets the job done.

The 125m rides about the same as any other 125m. The convenience of having reverse is nice when I want to be lazy lol. I don't pull anything heavy so not having the high/low trans is ok and if I have to I have a Big red that I can use for that. Other then that I haven't posted pictures yet because I haven't finished up swapping out plastics and buttoning it up. I had a lot of projects going on and other people's stuff that I have been working on so it's just been push to the side for now.
