Im going to be adjusting the valves on my 84 big red and according to the clymer service book I'll need a honda valve adjusting tool and a feeler gauge. I guess I can get a feeler gauge at napa or some place like that but where do I get the honda valve tool? And are those all the tools I'll need (besides sockets or wrences)? And how much is this stuff going to cost roughly?

The only tools I have ever used are the feeler gauges, a 8 or 10mm wrench to loosen the locknuts and a small pair of visegrips to turn the adjusters. The adjusters have a square head so they are easy to grab.

I have a special valve adjuster tool. It does work good, but not really good enough to justify the $20-$40 for the tools. I lucked out when I got mine. I got them at a dealer closing the doors auction.

I also use a 10mm wrench and needle nose pliers sometimes. If you got extra money laying around then buy the special tool. If you want to save your money use pliers and a 10mm wrench.

Just my 2 cents.

Just use a #2 Robertson head screw to adjust the valves! The recessed bit hole fits the adjuster perfectly!!

Thanks. I've decided to forget about the tool then and just use a wrench or pliers.
