So, Unadilla went great!!
I followed rt 8 to 20 and believe it was 87 South I stopped at a McD's/rest area.
As soon as I left the plaza, I saw "Stop at toll ahead". I looked past my mc/nuggets and panicked.
I asked the girl at the toll how to turn around, she said take this exit and 2 left turns. This was not an open median highway so I couldn't u turn but should have at the tolls. I explained I had near 0$ to get home and she said "It will cost you 1.30$ to get into Mass" via their highway/interstate. That got me lost and I never found the rest area again.
So, I used MapQuest to find the rest area, zoomed in and nothing. I clicked on the fork and knife and still could not find this area. I do not know the exact route or exit I was on but it was a 3 lane Highway in New York, thought it was 87 south. Heading to NY 90 and Mass pike 90 at 9-10PM.
I panicked instead of noting where EXACTLY I was.
Seems simple enough to find so I can call that rest area and ask if it was turned in; But, I can't find it.
ALL my credentials are in that wallet, they can have all the money.
Any suggestions on locating this area as I have described it? Thanks.....

Best I can think of is using google maps. My mother is on there all the time looking at potential houses in Arizona, and she is pretty much able to use the satellite pictures to look at the whole damn state. I don't know exactly how it works, but you may be able to locate the rest stop and get it's name??? Do you by chance have the McDonald's receipt in your pocket?

Dumass...JUST KIDDING LOL!!! Did you use a credit ? That would tell you where that Mcd's is. I am def NOT a seasoned traveler!! So that's my only thought at this moment :( Good luck Steve!

Sounds like the Guilderland service area by the route you describe.
This was basically a place that was a direct exit and re-entry back onto the Thruway right?? Just like a rest area but with a Mc'D's and gas station??
If this is the place you were at, here is a link with their phone number... http://www.thruway.ny.gov/travelers/travelplazas/tp-guilderland.html
NOTE: there is a box with 2 phone numbers for lost and found on the page I linked you.
Good luck Steve!! Hope an honest person picked up your wallet!

^ Thanks allot guys!!
I was so upset I threw all the food away as well as the receipt and I don't use credit or debit except online.
I'll check that link out, THANK YOU!!
I have about 12 hours into searching for this and I used Google Earth nice and zoomed in today. Found the Mass/NY line and tolls but couldn't see where I got ON to the short NY toll of 1.30$ I tried for hours and hours.
I gotta check this link out now. Thanks guys.

Wow, that looks just like where I was!! Thanks again; Any hope is hope...
Called lost and found. 2 days late though.
Try the local pd where the mcd's was, i lost my wallet at the wendys in the Pilot truck stop in milford ct right off exit 40 on I95 here in CT one day at lunch, i went straight back no later than ten minutes and no one at wendys had seen it and no one turned it in. Later that night, a cop showed up at my door with the wallet. Someone found it and turned it into the police instead of wendys, of course everything was there except the cash...lol but they did return it to the cops with everything else, even the gas card, still in it! Of course all the cards were canceled but still.... Could have been worse! So, try the police, theres always the chance.

Cross your fingers and hope an honest person finds it. Will they be able to contact you with info in the wallet?
PS. This post sent a chill up my back when I saw the title. I stopped at Rotten Ronnie's today and after waiting in line for 10 minutes I placed my order. When I went to pay my wallet was not in my pocket! I ran out to the truck and it was laying on the ground outside the door for all to see. I was on my way back from a government office where I was doing some tax stuff and had to pay parking and the wallet ended up in my lap and not my pocket. ALL my I.D. was in it, stuff I usually keep in a safe. Easily a month or more to replace it all and I plan to travel in a week. It would have been a disaster. Between replacing work permits, travel visas, licenses and bank cards + the 6 pre-paid flight tickets I would not have been able to use I would have been out of pocket an easy 5K, I got lucky, sure hope you do too. Good luck!!!

I don't even want to disclose how much I had in there. This was a HUGE mistake and I took a big hit, let alone my credentials.
But, just look at what happened to you Pat, I was very upset about all that so this is small stuff in comparison; Not everything is replaceable in our lives........
And El Camexican, I am so glad that turned out good for you, scary wasn't it!!

I lost mine right before TF....so I feel yer pain.
I was panic texting Fabio to see if I could even still get in Haspin with no ID because I didn`t have time to get another one before TF.
I had my sis-in-law go get the rental van for me and Pork because I couldn`t even pick it up from them without ID. I had him drive too.
I hope it turns up, Steve. I`m betting a good Samaritan picked it up and its gonna show up any day now....just like mine.....smh
have you tried calling their local PD and or county or state PDs? somebody may have given it to an officer instead of turning it in to the station/McD`s

Are 100% certain that the wallet isn’t in a pocket, or stuck under your truck seat? Can you visualize the last time you saw it? And yes, it was scary. That shot of sickening fear ruined the rest of my day to be honest. I can’t imagine what you feel like.

I lost a stacked wallet on the golf course once. Turns a good day horrible in an instant. must have rattled out of the golf cart. Was an IBEW tournament. Unfortunately my fellow brothers were not honest. course was loaded with people, retraced my cart path back to lunch at the turn which was where i had it last. Nothing. Ever.

I spoke to a guy at that Plaza today. I described it and he said "yep, that's this rest area".
He is going to look over the video footage and call me back. I had a yellow tie dyed UNADILLA shirt, meshed grey shorts, blood down my right leg and checkerboard VANS kicks, they can't miss that!!
I knew when I left it was gone. I turned the truck upside down and shorts/under arse 20X, it's gone.
Worse stuff happens.....

Steve if I can suggest anything to you it would be to make "homes" for essential items such as your wallet and keys (which you seem to be losing constantly). TecateDan and I had this conversation once years ago and only once I believe, as he seemed to grasp the concept straight off. My wallet lives in two places: my pocket or on my bureau. My keys, in my ignition or under the seat. Left front pocket is lighter and smokes, right front is phone, left arse pocket is receipts or papers, things of that nature. You never, ever take your wallet out and put it down, never. It goes to its home and that's it, always. I wear glasses and I've had the same pair now for about 3 years, the previous pair being 4. Sunglasses, this pair for 2 years and the previous for 5+. Find homes for these things and never "save time" by not returning them to their home. A place for everything, everything in its place.

I have to agree with Fabiola on this one. I learned a long time ago that I work better if things are a little routine for me. If my wallet isn't in my pocket it's on my night stand. The only time I've lost my wallet was because my pants pocket had ripped and my wallet fell out. I had to throw those pants away!
