85 rear shock question?

hey guys.

we are planing on tearing the rear shock apart to replace the dust sleeve,and repaint the spring.

question is when we take the spring out.do we have to worry about over extending the shock when we release the spring? or worry about bushing the seal?

You can take the spring out without getting into the guts of the shock body. Dont worry about over extending it when the spring is out. Unscrew those rings and take that spring out and paint it. The seal? If its not leaking, dont mess with it. Id take that shock to a good suspension guy if your gonna tear into it.

were not going to tear into the shock.we are just wanting to replace the dust cover and repaint the spring. was just worried about over extending the shock.
