I dropped off the '82R hardware last week and Overnight Plating in Rochester and they called yesterday that it
was done. Went this morning and was pleasantly surprised by the results. I've had them do hardware for my LT250s
but that was done in Yellow and it turned out well. This time I asked for Clear (silver) and am very happy. The
axle was the best part.

Absolutely nothing sets a build off quite like nos/new plastic and plated oem hardware. Looks very nice.

I think my next build will be involving this, I would have on my brother's 82,but that's more of a "work with what I got" build

I don't have a picture of the whole axle, but this shot gives you an idea of what they started with.

that looks like new and for only 60 bucks I think that's a deal.

There is one spot that didn't plate well, but I can live with it.

For you guys who would like to have hardware replated, check your phonebook for "Metal Finishers". So far I have taken in about 300lbs of hardware and had it replated with white zinc. Most metal finishers will put small stuff in a tumbler to remove the old finish and corrosion. White and yellow zinc is a very common finish and is the least expensive. Given the fact that some of the oddball bolts and such are had to find and some being discontinued and expensive makes having them replated very cost effective. Pretty much anything steel can be plated. Pot metal and aluminum should not be plated as the metal can dissolve in the VAT and contaminate the plating solution so STEEL ONLY>>>

Exactly, I was going to say to look under metal finishers. The place I take my stuff to smells like sulfuric acid as everything gets a bath to take the rust and corrosion off. The stuff that has paint
on it they blast. I like the silver finish the best as it seems lay down better than the gold. I had the gold done on my LT250s hardware and it didn't turn out as well as this batch.

Can my rusty axles turn out like that? Ive got a few id like to refinish. Thanks for sharing Im going to look for a metal finisher now.

Probably will here is the shot of the gold axle above before. It had far more rust on it. If I were going to keep the LT250s I'd
have the Axle redone in silver.

Absolutely 3WD although any pitting, gouging, or any other damage in the metal obviously will show but the axle should turn out like Dirtweed's did. This is the last load I had done.

I have seen so any builds where everything was painted, new plastic, new everything BUT old rusty fasteners and axles. I know not everyone has a metal finisher near them thanks to the EPA but If you do have one, go talk to them. Some of them don't like to do small loads so go talk to them. I have a guy here that will do 75lbs for 75 bucks. Axles are about 80 bucks. I have another load I hope to take to him soon.

Wow when I first looked at your pics I though it was my pics, but then I seen my red and black tool box sitting next to each other and I Knew they are in two different buildings. LOL
You are getting a lot better price then I am.Mine cost me $150 no matter how many pounds I send, I think I did 90 some pounds the first time. I'm still happy with that because chroming was $2 a bolt. And it's so much nicer putting motors back together with new looking bolts, let alone whole bikes.

The pic I posted is my spare bolts. I stripped a bunch of trikes a few years back and had all the hardware replated. I have them all sorted by diameter and length so when I need something I don't have to dig for what I need. It really is a pleasure to do a build with like new bolts.

They would have to blast it to get the paint off so it would probably come out with a matte finish.

I sand blast them before I take it apart and then just use the VHT cast silver that has a little flake in it then clear coat. I 'll powder coat them and even polish them if the want but that's over a $1000 to do that.202745

Well this time I took the KLT160 tank to get blasted and then to Overnight Plating to have the guys Nickel coat it
so it wouldn't rust anymore. They did a great job as usual. Now to have it powder coated and tattooed with Real Tree Camo.

Where in Rochester is this place? I'm out in Penfield every so often for doctors appointments. Never seen it out there.

It's not in Penfield. It is in one of the better (cough) neighborhoods in Rochester.
