1984 big red 200es

i traded for a 200es recently it had what i thot was a fuel issue it runs but backfires through out acceleration i put a brand spanky new carb on it it idles smoother but still gots the pop poppity pop pops through carb any ideas? i found a fairly deep groove in the pulse generator rotor.

how does the plug look? I had a plug cap fail and it would just get worse at backfiring.

That sounds like an air fuel ratio issue when you say a new carb do you mean nos, oem, or Chinese. Also check for air leaks and do a plug chop. Should narrow it down.
