83 185s sputtering after warm up

I have a 83 185s and took it out on a all day ride and after the motor warms up it starts to sputter but still runs. I have tried gas cap breather and it continues even with cap off. I think it is electrical but where should I start? any info will help.

Check all the electrical connections , unplug the on / off switch to rule that out as well , it will run just fine with it unplugged . I have seen stators act up when their starting to go bad as well .

I hit components with a hairdryer one at a time
to see what might be acting up. CDI, coil etc.
You can also cool stuff one at a time with compressed air.
x2 on checking all electrical connections btw. Check stator output when warm?

Plug chop, sounds like it's running lean. Have you done any mods recently?
