Team,
I have an 86 honda 110 atc. It suddenly stopped running and would not start back up. I took it to the local (Mobile AL) Honda Atv dealer (Halls Motor sports) they said the compression was too low in the engine and basically pronounced it dead. Can a new engine be put in one of these? Hate to see the little guy die. I really liked it. Hope it can be brought back to life. Is there hope?

lol they must just not want to work on it. check to make sure one of your valves isnt bent, that will give you zero compression. if theyre good probably need rings and maybe a piston

Do a compression check then put a few drops of oil in plug hole. No change its valve increase means rings. Most shops wont work on anything older than 10 years

prob just needs a top end job. however honda never made an 86 atc 110. They made the 110 from 79 to 85. in 86 they only had the 125m. So make shore of the modle before buying parts some pics of the bike would help us id the bike.

I stand corrected. It is a 1985 Honda 110 atc. The shop says they might be able to find a new chinese engine. Is a new engine an option. If so 205015where to get? I attached a pic of it here. Hope you can see it.

if youre mechanically inclined i would suggest rebuilding instead of buying a chinese motor.

Yeah don't go Chinese. Get a manual from one of the guys on here and remove the top end. You can bring it to any small engine guy with the piston and he should be able to fix you up. A little wrenching is involved but when it is all over with you will respect the machine way more.

Take it to another shop . This is one of the easiest motors to work on and rings and pistons and valves available on ebay all day. Downvote china motor.

Since I am not inclined to do this kind of work, if I can find someone to do it....how many hours for a job like this and what would I expect to pay? Thanks to all.

A job like this for a "NORMAL" fella like myself (not a mechanic) 2.5 hrs to pull the head and piston. Then I would bring it to my mechanic, who is very busy, and he would get it back to me in about 3 days. Then 2.5 hrs to put back together. Now keep in mind I take my time and review the manual, drink beer, and make it pleasurable experience. Pull the head man!! You got this!! A lot of the "ATV" mechanics won't touch trike motors. But they will do work to parts that are removed from the machine. (i.e. rework heads, bore & hone cylinders)

If you're truly unsure of doing this yourself, maybe a fellow forum member near you would take on the task for a "non-stealership" rate. The guys are right, it's fairly straightforward if you follow the manual, have access to a local machine shop (boring may be needed), and own basic hand tools and a torque wrench. Start a thread on the re-build and you'll be surprised of the support you get, we like DIY's who ask good questions and listen.

Hard to believe that a 110 Honda that looks as nice as the one in the pic is actually so low on compression that it won't even run! It could be as simple as a valve adjustment. Further investigation, or a second opinion seems to be an option here.

Time is not on my side and I know it would take me forever to get this done. I found another shop and then called the first shop. they said before I even told them what I had learned and was about to do, that the chinese engine was too expensive and that a top end rebuild might do it. Go figure. I know I have two left thumbs when it comes to stuff like this so I am letting the shop take apart the top. They estimated 2-3 hours. They also said part are available at a place called Beatrice (I think that is what the said) I really appreciate all the good advice and will post how this goes. I may end up at it myself but that will likely be a mistake. I just know me. Thanks again.

Update on this the shop says the cylinders need to go to a machine shop to be rebored to proper specs. They want to clean that out and then do valves. Will update this thread until hopefully solved and running again.

As long as your happy with the results, it's no ones business how you get it fixed. I'd be surprised if the costs don't match or exceed your purchase price. I think most of us have been raped by dealers at some point. Let us know how you make out.

where can I get the manual?
I got both the Clymer and Honda manuals from the public library... You just have to be a bit more careful with them.
