View Full Version : Bike Bandit Tires (so far not so good)

Well I ordered some tires from Bike Bandit and not only did it take them 5 days to ship the "in stock" tires but when they came the tires had been smashed together in order to fit them in one box. I don't know if this is how all tires come but it's definitely going to make mounting them unnecessarily difficult. 205105205106
And here is a picture of a tire that I was able to kind of get in the right shape. This is after an hour of sitting (me hoping it would return to its normal shape)

Well I guess I'm just curious if this is how it's supposed to go, any comments welcome

I've already ordered tires off of Rocky Mountain and they were plastic wrapped together and shipped like that. No boxes.
You would think a major online retailer would know better not to pull something like that. I would email them.

Well I called BikeBandit and asked what this was all about, the lady on the phone asked her supervisor and he said that all tires ship like that. They also said that it could not damage the tires to pack them like that and I should not be worried about them being any weaker because of it. Also I brought up that i can't physically pull apart the sidewalls of the really smashed tire, and asked them how I should do it. They told me to take it to a tire retailer with the right tools to pull it apart and I'm more than welcome to return them if im not happy(why would I do that if they would ship them back to me packaged the same way?). I am going to try mounting them and see where that goes. I guess I wanted to put all this out there as a buyer beware kind of thing. At least I have an Atc, I can't imagine if they tried to put 4 tires in that box!

That's so stupid. You know it's not going to weaken the rubber itself, it's just how are you suppose to seat the bead? I wouldn't order from them again.
Well now everyone knows here where not to order their tires from.

I got tires shipped like that
I just asked a provisional
He said get the tire warm, put it in the sun ect.
This was January in buffalo NY
So I set the oven to broil opened the door half way
half hour later warm, round, fell onto the beads
If u have a woman who lives with u a torpedo heater could work also
Warm it up

It's common practice and I wouldn't get upset about it. I have received tires that way and also just wrapped in shrink wrap, no box. New tires generally will have the sidewalls sunken in to a degree like that whether they are shipped in a box or just wrapped in shrink wrap and labeled. I would not get upset with Bike Bandit for this, this is pretty common practice...
I received a set of new Holeshot GNCC's from RMATV, just shrink wrapped... They had sunken sidewalls. It was winter... Simply crank up the woodstove and set the tires near enough to the stove to get them good and warm and pliable... Mounting was a breeze.

Unfortunately, that's pretty common practice when they ship tires out, now a days. I had some come like that back in December, and even though im in Cali, it still is cold in December. There wasn't a chance in hell that I would be able to mount them up, so I took them to my local tire shop. They tried, and tried, and also couldn't get the beads to seat. In the end they had to put them in the shop bathroom with with the heater on full blast to get them to soften up enough for the bead to seat.
So, now I just order from Rocky Mountain, and let them do the dirty work of mounting them, before shipping them out.

Do they do this to 6 ply also or just the 2 ply tires?

Sadly, that seems to be common practice. My last set I had to put tubes in them, over-inflate them and let them sit for a few days before I mounted them on the rims. It was better, but still a pain.

I've had atv tires arrive like that before. Get them warm and they will be fine. Laying them in the sun is usually all it takes. I have a bead blaster so it will seat just about anything no matter what shape it's in though.
Realistically it doesn't matter what you can do with your hands because you'll be mounting them with tire levers which have a huge mechanical advantage.

They do it to all ply!! I just leave em in the sun it's not any harder than mounting normal tyres!

I bought tires that were shipped like that. 2 years later they have never gone back to the proper shape. I'm guessing all depends how long they were smashed down.
I bought some Duro's from Cascade lakes motorsports and they shipped like that (I actually thought is was just one tire until I unwrapped.) I think I will bring them in and set by the fireplace as there is no sun today.
Kudo's to Cascade on the shipping, ordered on the 25th the tires were in my driveway the 26th, almost before I was done paying!

I don't want to kick this horse but with a White House full of communist trying to squeeze dimes out of everyone with regulatory BS companies are doing what they can to save money and this is one of them. I got the same tires from BB and they were shipped like that. It sucks but my much better bearclaws and mud lites were plastic wrapped.
After 2 hours in front of the fireplace my 25x12x9 Duro mud & sands went on the rims just fine. One seated no problem but the other one I had to induce combustion to get it seated, damm that's scary but it sure works good! I don't see any deformity in them after a short 15 min test ride.

Sounds to be common practice, but yeah, makes mounting a little harder. Same deal with a Carlisle one I ordered awhile back - all scrunched up in shipping. Gotta be careful, but I used the starter fluid trick to seat the bead. Didn't ever notice any lumpiness myself, but it was on a 110 that the kids ride most of the time.

Not every company ships tires this way.
I ordered two Dunlop KT385 tires from two separate companies (tires are disco) and this is how they arrived.

I ordered the same exact tires as you (First pic) from bikebandit and they came in a box, i thought the same as you (wtf were they thinking) but really you just put them back by hand let them rest a bit, then they seat easy on the rim, atleast they did for me.

I needed tires, kinda worried about it seeing this thread, but the price was better than local shops, so I ordered a pair of ITP Mud lites from Bikebandit, thrown in with some other odds and ends. (Free shipping, so still cheaper than the local shops...)
We shall see how they show up.

Put a hair dryer at a angle inside for awhile and kept checking on it. They can then be mounted easier when warm, plus plus.

Apparently they don't do all tires that way, here are my Mud Lites from Bikebandit and they just wrapped them in plastic.

I know it was different tire brands that smashed the tires down when I worked at a tire shop. Interco did not smash the swamp lights but basically any thing under 6 ply was slammed together before it shipped. Weird.
