I just bought 2 honda 200's and both need some work. Neither of them were running. Got one to fire up but for 30 seconds. I know i have to clean up the carbs. I watched video on you tube so i can replace the cord on the recoils. Im hoping to get some advice on a few questions?
1. do the decompression cables on the recoil need to work for motor to run correct?
2. if not.. does the decompression lever need to be upright or horizontal?
3. i have looked for a new cable but im not finding one does any one have any ideas? looked on bikebandit, rockymountainatv and a few others

Looking forward to riding soon!!

the engine will work even if the cable is not there. its only here to help you pull on the pull start. both of my 185s cable are gone and its only a pinch harder to pull ( but still really easy) when you lift it up before pulling it engages the decompressor and as soon as you pull the machanism release it automatically

Nice to see you're saving a couple of 200's. I have a few myself... simple to work on one of my favorites

1. no
2. the decomp leveler off the cylinder head will lay flat (horizontal)
3. If you're set on using decomp cable, watch eBay. Obviously don't buy an old rusted one but you may find some. Personally I'd leave them off. For the little extra that it does it isn't worth the headache. I assume you're lucky enough to have rewind still inside recoils? Good luck on getting them going.
