This trike started out as a bunch of parts 5 years ago when my friend Garrett built it. After countless rides and ice races he sold it to another one of our friends. He had it for about a month when the recoil broke and the hub stripped out so he parked it. I came along and bought it, then traded it for a set of rims and tires for my truck. The guy who l traded it to posted it to Craigslist a few months later when my friend nick bought it. He had it for one day before crashing it on the highway breaking both of his wrists. The police had it towed and the company who towed it wanted 500 to get it out 3 days later so nick decided to just leave it. A few months later me and him were talking when he told me that it had never been taken out if my name so I decided to go to the yard where it was stored. The guy behind the counter told me if I could show him a registration card that he would let me have it for 150. Surprisingly I still had it in my wallet, gave him the card and 150 and I loaded it up.
As for the build up I have the motor all set to go, no pics tonight I'll add some tomorrow, it is a stock 185 lower end with a 200s top end punched .20 over with a 12:1 piston. I am also in the process of modifying the frame to fit the fmf exhaust (pics below) I also have plans to build a whole new wiring harness. As for the rear axel it is out of a 1980 185, it's actually a bit wider then a stock 185s. The frame is also going to be power coated black. I'll keep you guys updated!! Here are some updates. I have decided to just paint it instead of having it powder coated. I'll keep you guys updated with more progress207715207714207716207717

Looking good. Keep it up. Did you polish the rocker cover or just get that good a shine on paint?

be careful how big on exhaust you install. smaller motors do not need a big exhaust and too big will loose power. all engines require some amount of back-pressure unless forced inducted. so jsut try to keep that in mind when choosing an exhaust. too big a pipe can loose power and performance.

It has the stock head pipe and the seilencer is an fmf. I have ran the motor in another trike with that exhaust set up and she hit 71 mph with stock gearing

It's the paint that's shiny, the picture quality is kind of low so it's hard to tell

I love both of my 185s. Can't beat em. Cheap, light, powerful and able. I would trade my first one for the world. It's under a tarp waiting for a full no corners cut restro. Looking forward to seeing yours finished.

Thanks! I'll be posting pics over the next few days. I really love the 185s light, cheap and fun. I wish I would have taken pics of the motor rebuild. It has a 12:1 piston and a bore can't wait to get it all done

I personally only have 1 trike, an '83 185s. Its one of my prized possessions. Im only in high school so I gotta save for a car, cant be buying extra toys unless they are a really good deal. I bought this one for $350, it ran but not well, I cleaned the carb and now she runs damn near perfect, idle is a little shady but overall its a great machine for the price I paid. I have yet to see one as nice as mine for any less then $500. Yours has potential to be awesome, love the story behind it too. Keep us updated!
Heres some pics of my 1 and only trike:TrikesOwn

I couldn't agree with you guys more! I have both a 185 and a 200. They are always my go to fun trikes. Start with the first pull and never leave me bored. Ride'm till my teeth are loose. Great thread. Good job.

Correction! Now the 185s isn't my only trike. Just picked up a new one yesterday. 84 ATC 200s. Doesn't run, new project for me. Got it for 200 bucks, he wanted 500:lol:. I'll probably do a minor restoration on this, here's the beginning pics.213167213167213168213169213169213170
