250R TRX 450 swinger swap question

I bought everything needed for the trx 450r swinger swap on my 82. The one thing I did not get was the trx axel and carrier. I was hoping to retain the original +4 durablue axel I currently have on the bike. Do I have to use the trx axel on the trx swinger as well as the trx hubs? Or can I just use the trx swingarm carrier with the durablue

I have never heard of anybody doing a swap on a first or second gen R. There have been quit a few people do the swap on liquid Rs
