Evenin all I recently picked up an 82 185s got it runnin but its breakin up when I try and rev it. Did some readin and im thinkin stator might be bad, I see on e-bay the source coil is cheap are the any good ? I do have some parts 200 engines that I could steal one from but I`m not sure if they are any good either and I`d kinda rather have a new one anyway. So am I better off with the e-bay special or should I just go with the used Honda one and hope its good ? It does have a Clarke plastic tank and a custom wheelie bar on it too, although it looks more like an upside down luggage rack. :wondering

i bought 2 ebay exciter coil for my 185s and both fire right on first pull after the swap! also you need a flywheel puller for that job ! good luck!

Thanks man, guess I`ll go that route I`d rather have a new one anyway. I have a puller so thats not a problem I just don`t wanna have to do it more times then need be. Thanks again.

just take a normal soldering iron and electrical solder. put some on the wire and on the coil and then melt it together.! then wiggle it little bit to make sure its solid. not a big deal

Good to see another 185 SAVED from the neglected bin. Treat her right and enjoy ! One OTHER thing needs to be mentioned: COMPLETELY disconnect and clean with solder paste, ALL of the (what... are there 8-10 wires ? ? ? ) on that thing, treat them to a small dab of dielectric grease, put them back together, and enjoy it for the next 30+ years. Honda made junk, I tell ya .................................................. ......................

Yea I hope to enjoy it for many years to come, I just hate to see perfectly good wheelers go to waste. Bought this one for the plastic tank and the 8 inch wheels and hubs then decided to fix it instead of bustin it up.The 200 in my avatar I`ve had probably 20 years now.I always use dielectric grease on my electrical connections to keep em water tight. @ Frankie I thought by good solder ya meant a certain kind not just a good soldered connection.
