1985 250R LSR bearing carrier and tire questions!! HELP

Hey guys, I finally got my correct year carrier in the mail, it slid right in. Anyways, I went to put the brake stay onto the carrier, went fine, and then I went to put the snap ring in the groove. Unfortunately there is not enough room for the snap ring, you can only see about 1mm of the groove or less. I checked, and the carrier is all the way in. What should I do?

Also, I was getting my rear tires mounted onto my wheels. Tires are 20x10x8's. Wheels are 10x8's. I had no idea that they swapped the sizes around on the wheel vs the tire. So basically I would need 8X10 wheels. I could not find those, the closest I could get are 8x8 wheels, is that what I should get, and will that fit my 20x10x8 tire? Thanks guys!!!

I have some ideas about the tires here guys. I have not ordered my sand tires yet, but I was thinking I would maybe like another set of rear wheels just for my sand tires so then I can leave them mounted all the time and not deal with the hassle of changing them. Anyways, my wheels that I have now are 10x8, and I am able to get the rear sand tires in a 20x11x10. That way I don't have to deal with sending my rear wheels back. Just so we're clear the SECOND number on the wheel size of (10x8) is the width of the wheel(in this case 8), and the FIRST number is the wheel diameter(in this case 10) On the tire, it is opposite of the wheel, the last number ((in this case 10)) on the tire corresponds with the FIRST number on the wheel size. While the ((middle/second)) number **in this case 11** on the tire, corresponds with the second number on the wheel(in this case of a 10x8 wheel, it would be 8). I hope I am making sense with this. Basically my question is an 11 inch wide tire going to work on an 8 inch wide wheel? I know you can go at least an inch up but I'm not sure. Thanks guys!!

Are the edges of swingarm, where the carrier slides into it, boogered up at all, thus preventing the proper seating of the parts?

As for your tire/wheel measurement question, look at this way:

The first figure is the diameter, & the second figure is the width, regardless of whether you're talking about tires or wheels. When talking about tires, the third figure is the wheel diameter. Yes, those tires will be fine on your 10X8 wheels, but 10x9 or 10x10 wheels might be better.

When you say they might be better, how would it be better? Just curious. Also. So is it safe to order 8x8 wheels for my 20x 10x8 tires that I already have?

It all depends on the tire style, and what you're looking for. As the tire gets wider & the wheel gets narrower, it tends to pull in the sidewalls and "round over" the tire's footprint. If you're dealing with balloon tires, it's not a big deal, but if it's an MX or flat-track style tire, you'd probably want a wider wheel. Make sense?

Yes, that size of tires will work on 8X8 wheels. I personally don't like the tires to be more than 2" wider than the wheels, so that 20X11-10 tire was a bit outside of my preference zone for a 10X8 wheel. But I do know how difficult it is to find 10X10 wheels, or the very rare 10X9.

I kinda like 9x9 wheels. They usually come in 6/3 offset, which is a freebie for 2" more overall rear width, and 20x10x9 in Holeshots, Razrs and whatnot are usually a good fit and give a good tire profile. Lots and lots of tire choices for 9" wheels as well... Doesn't seem to be so much the case with 8" and 10".

Being that it is a sand tire, and for sand dunes, is it going to effect traction/handling in a bad way running the 8 inch wide wheel on the 11 inch wide tire?

Mr. Clean: On the chain tensioning side of the swingarm, the swingarm is a little beat up on that side(like red rider was asking). Plus it has powdercoat on both sides so I'm going to try and clean up the one side and then remove the power coat on the right side of the swingarm, and see where I'm at.

I just read on another ATV forum and one guy was running 6 inch wide wheels in an 11 inch wide tire, so maybe having the 11 inch wide tire on an 8 inch wide rim wont be so bad for the dunes?

They must have 8 lug holes (dual bolt pattern rims).

Perfect. I ordered those 8x8 wheels. As soon as I get them Ill have the scorpions mounted up and she will be a roller!!! I already got my front tire mounted on the wheel and its on the trike.

I'm glad you got the proper 8" wheels on the way.

I would say you found the culprit.

It would be surprising to me that a company like LSR would turn out a carrier that is not up to spec... If you had a no-name ebay knock-off I would be a little more suspect of the carrier.....

Here is the only pic I could find showing the area where the circlip goes, its not much exposed behind the brake stay. Its and 86 buy yeah you get the idea.

By the way a local triker picked up an axle brake hub and rotor from me yesterday so it should be on its way to you by now.
