I will post pics soon. Got the 185s up on the table and have the engine out. Found my low compression was due to a head gasket leak:( I am looking for a gasket set. Found several, anyone recommend a particular brand or seller of them?

Yeah I bought one from Honda a few months ago. It was an MLS gasket too. I just got a moose racing gasket kit for the rest of the gaskets and seals. So far so good.

I didn't think about that, I just assumed Honda no longer made them. I'll check with them tomorrow. I found Athena brand that uses moto gaskets for their kit. Anyone know anything or used Athena?

I think this bike had a top end done in it before I had got it. The cross hatch on the cylinder is beautiful and the piston is stamped 0.75 on the top. Anyone know what that means. Rings look great. Should I go ahead and replace the chain since I'm in here? The tensioner is showing some wear.

.75mm over your stock bore so it may be on its third top end now unless the piston was scored badly enough before they had to go up .75mm from stock or .25mm in order to get rid of the scoring. Next piston up will be 1.00mm over.

Well upon further inspection I found that one of the chain tensioners is missing. Either was never reinstalled or is in the bottom of the crankcase in pieces. I find no evidence of the latter so I assume the idiot who rtv'd the crap out of every gasket probably didn't put it back in. The fun never ends.
I am working on getting pics up but am having trouble posting them to the board. As soon as I figure it out I will get them up.

Pics as promised. The first one you can see where the head gasket failed in two places. On the bottom of the cylinder it is stamped JCS 08-01 in one of the pics. Anyone know what that means or what it references?

Anyone know what these numbers mean? At first I thought they may have been proof markings by the person inspecting the engine but it's in english. Figured that would be in Japanese characters.

I've never seen a head gasket on one of these fail in all my years.. And it's a lot lol..The jcs,, It is not factory,,I am guessing here,,either someone resleeved it,or simply worked on it,and stamped it, Why ? Who knows. I sure wouldn't have put my name on it lol! Hondas new head gaskets are amazing. No more o ring. I always would recommend cleaning /matching the ports and a great valve job while it's apart. but for a 7 yo?? I won't lol. I hope he's big,and you really watch over him or her. A lot of bike for a 7yo. 70's are cheap lol...If they can start it, they can ride it is always a good rule :) Make SURE you get every drop of that goop out of everywhere. Also, when you clean your oil sump/filter,,,,, make sure they didn't use it on the clutch cover. That plugs your oil passages..
