I'm pretty sure they are photos from back in the day taken by Kawasaki for advertising purposes.

It is an 87. You can tell by the decals, painted rims, parking brake, and key ignition. Very cool.

Wow...the rims were painted in '87 huh? Never knew that!! Why would they do this? Reduced production costs?

They redesigned the 85/86 rim, I assume to make it stronger. The 87 rim has a rolled lip and a welded center, which you can see in one of the pictures. It's the same rim they used on the T-4. Painting may have saved on production costs.
