1983 yamaha 175 trimoto help again! Oil or gas dripping out exhaust pipe?

Hello, I have black drops dripping out my exhaust pipe while machine is sitting? Seems to thin to be oil. Doesn't smell like gas either. What could it be and what is the fix. It sprays a these drops when running. This started to happen after I put fresh oil in the crankcase. I just got it last week. I don't think it has been on a good run in a long time.

I looked on some other atv forums and sounds like it is my float sticking. I do have a problem with gas dripping out the overflow tube if i leave the gas on. It was pouring out at first because the previous owner had the needle upside down. Found that out when I cleaned the carb. i will try adjusting the float.

Sounds like your crankshaft seal has gone bad.

Actual OIL coming from the exhaust means its not burning in the chamber. If your plug isn't gunked to hell, I'd be looking at the exhaust valve, umbrellas, etc. Has your oil level dropped in the case? See if you can get access to the exhaust valve (as if your adjusting the lash) and see if you can press down on the rocker. Normally it should be nice and smooth. If it "ratchets" or has a grinding feel to it, or you can hear contact when you move it side to side (the actual valve, not the rocker), then you might need a top-end rebuild. I say that because if you're going to do the seals on one you might as well get the whole kit and do it all at once and be done with it.


If you can get the exhaust hot enough on a good ride, you should see it start to burn on the high rpms and after the run smell burning oil from the exhaust tip

It is gas not oil coming out the tail pipe.
