85 250 big red spark knock need expert advice!!

Ok I have a nice trike for once and would like to try and preserve it but the engine has a spark knock now first off when idling or putting around its fine but anything over half throttle in any gear it has a spark knock. Now the trike runs great and doesnt smoke and has plenty of power but i need advice or any help to try and get rid of this knock as always thanks in advance Jesse

Ok, so you are saying you think it's knocking? Unless you are sporting a radical cam and a high comp piston I would say it's not octane and you should be ok with 87. Have you tried adjusting the cam chain?

Well im not sure how on this trike i never owned one but if it was the cam chain wouldnt it knock all the time?

Could be a worn connecting rod or loose piston , if it's spark knock the easy way to tell is their wont be a knock intill the motor worms up but it would be very uncommon on that motor .

Well the motor doesnt smoke and is very strong running the knocking isnt loud it's just enough i can hear it, I just wonder if it could be too lean? The motor warms up pretty quick and i know a lean mixture can cause spark knock but im trying to narrow it down

Does the spark plug indicate that it's lean?

Just checked the plug it's good not lean and not rich i guess ill just ride the hell out of it and worry about it later

Change the oil. If your not using good stuff it can enhance knocking not there. Use Hondude
