Picked up a 185 honda from a neighbor. Hes a good guy so dont think hes BS ing me. He said it needed a tune up hasnt run in atleast 3 years. For some reason the oil was drained/gone. I filled with oil and it didnt run out of bottom, so happy there. I put in a dr8esl plug and cleaned carb and air cleaner. Icannot get the bike to run. It tries a little with ether. So i changed out carb with a good working carb and still no luck. Has spark. 120psi compression. Noticed oil coming out of cdi cover but figure i will deal with that later. New gas lines and fuel filter. Carb getting gas. Fresh gas. I pulled on that starter till the rope broke. Then put on a new/spare pull start and tried some more. I pulled the plug and it is dry (with both carbs). Shouldnt it be wet/flooded by now? I tried starting it with choke, halfchoke, no choke, a little throttle, etc. decompression lever seems normal. If valves were stuck i would not get a good comression reading or am i wrong? This is probally some basic stuff but its driving me nuts. I have a blood blister (giant one) on my hand from trying to start this thing. All thoughts would be appreciated. How could both carbs not be getting the plug wet? Pilot two turns out, then tried 3 turns out.

I don't want to jump to conclusions but I'm thinking that the cam timing is off. Is there a way to check the cam chain tension on that motor. Pull the valve cover and see if you can see anything.

Adjust the valves, and while you're up there. Pull the cdi cap off and SEE what's going on in there. Oil,rusty broken springs etc?

Check the tank breather

AS mentioned, timing, breather, valve clearance, and i'll add i have seen where fuel leaks into the cylinder and varnishes causing the rings to get stuck compressed. put some WD40 down the plug hole and let it soak over night, then see how she runs. also do a compression test.
if he took the CDI off, the CDI pickup could be 180* out of time causing issues. set the motor to TDC. check the CDI rotor. if the line int he rotor does not align up with the line on the pickup (black bock thingy) your out of time, if the rotor is on the bottom your 180* out. take it apart and re-assemble correctly.

Ok will look at suggestions this weekend hopefully. Already did comression test. 120 psi
