We just got back from our annual vacation in northern MN. Ever since I discovered the awesome trails up there, we hardly get any fishing in! The trails are just beautiful, and there's 100's of miles of them.

The machines washed and ready to go! My wife wanted an extra wheel, so I got her one.

My son, shooting the bowl on the 225DX. How come he looks cooler than me?

My view of one of the trails from the SX.

Me riding the bowl on the SX.

Playing at the sand pit.

Another great shot of the trail and the woods. I could spend a week there....oh wait, I just did! I wanna go back!
Interestingly, we had no problems with the 30-year-old Honda or the 32-year-old Honda, but my wife's 2008 Rancher broke down!

The trails are in Akeley, MN. We stay at Pixie Point Resort, on 11th Crow Wing Lake, which is an old school (meaning no spas or aromatherapy) fishing resort run by my 92-year-old grand-in-laws. It's been the family place for nearly 50 years. You have to drive through another resort called Pine Ridge to get out to the point, which makes it really cool and isolated. They don't have a website, because, like I said, they're 92 years old, and "don't need any of that newfangled crap".
If you want more of a Haspin Acres sort of feel, (never been to a Trikefest, but seen lots of pictures), they have the Stompin' Grounds Lodge, which is a campground with a bar and grill about 6 miles north of Akeley. It sits in the middle of the Paul Bunyan forest. http://www.stompingroundslodge.com/
Anyway, the trails are a bunch of interconnected maintained trails and logging roads. The "main" trails are wide and for the most part easy to pass unless you're riding one of those monster behemoths they have nowadays. The majority is what you see in the pics, but there are some moderately technical areas (at least for a 48-year-old who's only been riding trikes for 10 years) and even some singletrack for dirtbike only use. We had dry weather, almost too dry, because the one in back (which was usually me) got to eat a lot of dust. I took some GoPro videos, and if I can find a relatively short one, I may post it. However, I'm not Billy, I have only one camera, and my videos are only exciting to people who were actually there! Or maybe my family was just being polite too...
Here's something that will show my inexperience...there's a couple of loops that are super rocky, and in past years I always crawled over these areas. Then my friend taught me just a couple years ago to just throttle your way over them, and they've been way more fun since! You just fly over all but the biggest boulders.
All in all, it was a blast, and I look forward to going again next year!

That must have been fun - looks like a great place to ride. The "sand bowl" looks like a blast and you are right - your son does looks more cooler shooting the bowl than you - LOL. Thanks for posting the pics.

Thanks for posting, it's looks like a blast! It appears to be mostly sand and gravel on the trails? You can definitley see how dry it is there. Lots of States and Provinces are tinder dry right now.

Yup, nice area up there. I need to put it on the list for wheelin for the wife and I.
We're heading up to Beaver Bay (heh heheheh heh) in late September to hit the trails up there.

Being on the north shore of Lake Superior, it's rocky and the mud has a reddish tint to it

Here's a not very exciting video of one of our rides, but it gives an idea of what the trails are like. This particular one is in an area that has been recently logged, so the trees are small, but most are in much bigger woods. I posted it because my son and I really liked the winding bit towards the end. Also, we had some rain the night before, which knocked down the dust and improved visibility.

Thanks for posting the map of the Beaver Bay area trails. I wasn't aware of those. When we get these all explored, we'll head that way!
