Hi all, new member here and I am excited to share my new project... A 1985 ATC250R. It's pretty rough but I have been wanting to do a basket case kind of project for a long time. I am a Honda FL350R Odyssey and FL400R Pilot nut(own both) and have two KFX700 quads, but this is my first three wheeler. My story starts with my buddy from high school who got a brand new '86 ATC250R, he let me ride it and I have been hooked on atv's ever since. We lost contact after high school(he moved to Australia) and about five years ago we ran into one another and I asked if he still had his '86, he replied "Yes, and I haven't ridden it since we were 18" I never gave it any thought until I learned about the possible '87 ATC250R and it's parts... I remembered his ATC had white rad shrouds on it. I called him up and said "Those white rad shrouds on your 250R, where did you get them?" "Honda" he said, "I liked how they looked on the '87's so I ordered a set for mine"... Hmmmm..... I am ashamed I never shared the story on the '87's and it's parts with him and have pestered him to sell me his '86 for five years... He won't budge(can't blame him). His '86 has been buried in his garage to the point you can't even walk close to it, and it's covered. "It's in the corner and I am not digging it out" is all I ever got from him. I just wanted to see the shrouds again and see if they had Honda part numbers on them. Well last weekend and we finished today, he asked me to help clean his garage, and lo and behold he had this '85 in there too(you couldn't even see it before we started) I was able to sneak a peak at his shrouds... Appears not to be from Honda. I asked him " I thought you ordered these from Honda?" He said he did.... From the "Dealer". Thought they were Maier or something he said.... Well....dang!! We had I good laugh when I fessed up the '87 story and how I even went to our Honda dealer and asked if he ever saw an '87 ATC250R, he had a brochure for the '87's but never ordered any because everyone wanted the TRX250R's.... That's when this guy who overheard us talking comes over and asked if I was wanting a three wheeler cause that's all him and his buds ride. I explained I was just asking about the '87 250R three wheelers when he blurts out "Oh those... Those were put in a storage container and years later were buried east of the city". Well I was floored... I asked him..."Do you happen to know where?". He pulls out his phone and calls one of his buds and asks..." Hey, those three wheelers in the storage container, where are they buried?". Over the speaker phone I hear..." Somewhere in Dugald, MB".... All I got and no help at all. I began to think what a treasure it would be to find brand new ATC's... And what do you do with treasure? You bury it!! I could feel the story had changed with every telling.... But that's what they say in my little part of Canada. My buddy enjoyed the efforts I had gone to for the ATC's, and of course I asked about his '86 being for sale again..."no". K... "What are you doing with the '85?" He reply's "Just take it... And quit asking about my '86" Nice!! (thanks Bud) so I loaded it up, got the rear gold rims as well, and brought it home after he refused to take any money for it. Like I said it's rough, but with the info and help from the good people here I know I can make a cool ride out of it. So thanks before I even get started!!

I'd help him clean out three garages if he had another one for that price! That's the start of a worthwhile project.
