Well I picked up a Tri Z for very cheap.. I couldn't pass it up. Seeing as my 250r is almost wrapped up i'll have another project here and hopefully build this up a bit as well.218735218736

Sense I got it I had some 18 inch fast trekkers on 8 inch yamaha rims which I put on and all the plastics are yellow again! Next she needs the frame and swinger powdercoated as it was left outside for 8 years and is starting to peel and rust quite a bit.

I'll be looking for some parts here pretty quick for this thing.. I need radiator shrouds, seat, rear shock. I'll be going with the white and red color scheme as well so a red seat and i believe red shrouds is what I'll need for that.

Just thought I'd throw this out there for ya the 85-86 Z have an bad factory water pump that cracks cause the impeller is made out of plastic. If you're lucky enough you might still be able to find an billet one.

Yea i had heard about that actually before.. and guess what.. when I started the motor for the first time 2 nights ago there was sooooo much smoke. Took motor out and all top end was good.. 175 psi. I noticed oil was milky and figured pump was out and the impeller had broke off one fin. So I have contacted Corey Sprock who still makes them and bought one.. now I just need to find a seal.

Congrats on the new Z. I got mine a few years ago, fixed it up, and have been very impressed with it. Reading the old magazines I think the Z was underrated when it came out. It got 3rd in every shootout I've read. Granted I've done a lot to mine but it can be made into an impressive machine. If you plan on doing some high performance mods, buy all the Sprock parts you can while they are still available.

Thank you onformula1 and thanks Christph! I'm still not certain what I'll be doing with it.. I don't want to go to drastic with it.. just glad I have a Z. Now I need a T3! I've been watching vids and they look like a lot of fun so i'm pretty excited to get it running again!

And the impeller I believe. Boats.net was where I picked one up a couple years back.

The foot pegs are weak. Make sure that when your kicker comes down it hits the right side foot peg squarely. If not you MUST fix it. If you don't and the kicker ever gets past the peg you will crack the clutch cover. The price on the covers has tripled in the past 3 years and there are less for sale than before. Seems they cost more than an entire used engine did a few years back.

The stock steering head bearings are crap as well. If at all loose, or notchy replace with roller bearings.

Stock manifold is likely hard and cracking by now. Get a Sprock unit and it will allow you to put a larger carb on if you want some day. Don't throw away the stock carb, they go for a good buck these days.

Check the swing arm mount for looseness and get some grease in it ASAP if it doesn't need any fixing.

The forks on the 85's bend easily. Check yours to see if they are bad enough to worry about. They might be pitted under the gators as well.

El Camexican.. I'm very very glad you said that because both my pegs are JUNK.. beyond destroyed.. So far the case is fine but i'll DEFINITELY be buying new pegs asap now that i know that.

Oile- How much was that?? and that would remove the fuel pump and all those extra hoses correct? This thing has more hoses than my damn snowmobile!!

HAHA, they are the same company as http://www.partzilla.com/

I don't know why but all the OEM parts I order has Boats.net tape on them, I don't know who owns who, but they are great.

You need to get ahold of John swinehart about the prices on the tank and airbox. Raffa was making those plates for the foot pegs.

Get ahold of "Raffa" aka Bryan Raffa. He's not on here now, but I'm sure a bunch of people on here can contact him for you. He did a run of Heavy Duty weld on mounts and I think oversized modern foot pegs. They will cost, but its the way to go. Don't bother putting OEM pegs on again. Yours crapped out for a reason. When mine go I'm upgrading, I should do it now, but I don't feel like re powder coating and have no intention of jumping the trike. Speaking of which, if you jump that trike and a peg lets go you will likely destroy your ankle, knee or both. The set-up Oile and others have like the quads is the way to go.

Well thanks guys! Yup im firmiliar with Bryan Raffa from facebook.. I found on ebay for 155 the aftermarket pegs.

So yea with tank up top where does the airbox go? I'm very interested in that setup just to clean it up a bit.. frame is to cluttered for my liking with fuel lines.

I've got a set of used red shrouds if you're interested. You can also put a warrior rear shock on it, there much easier to find.

Bryan Raffa has his own website trikeracing.com. He has a video on youtube on installing the new plates for the footpeg upgrade.
