I pulled this off of a 1985 200x swinger that I picked up a few months ago. I was amazed at how clean it was. The complete machine was decent but no prize... At first glance I thought it was aftermarket. Just thought I would share this

I had a very.. VERY clean 85 250r axle (almost mint) and I wanted to press my 86 hub onto it.. I gave it to my uncle in hopes he would get it done.. they cut the hub off and started grinding into the axle.. Good way to ruin a perfectly good oem axle lol..

I see them all the time here on the West Coast.

They never look like that over here.

They never look like that over here.

99% of them the zinc plating in between the bearings is like new and the zinc on the hub splines also like new.

Most machines here only see the sand or desert riding, not much mud and moisture to deteriorate the plating.

Mr. Clean is right...on West Coast bikes we see it a lot. My '84 R came from California here was the axle and rear end when got her off the truck: 218872

Over here if it's not caked with grease or stored away from the elements it corrodes and goes to shiit. The entire rear assembly was very dirty and out comes this shiny axle. I couldn't believe my eyes. It had the perfect amount of grease evenly distributed.

you guys out west have it good. If you find a basket case that's been outside for over a year around here, the only tools you're gonna need for a while are a torch and a hammer and drill. Greasing axle splines and putting anti-seize on the front axle threads is a must.
