Hey guys, couldn't find through search or Google

.. Could anyone tell me if a 1983 185s axle will work on my 1982 185s? Someone previously welded the hubs on.... And found a decent axle but wanted to make sure there were no changes between the years.

I need to change the rear sprocket as well... Bad. Will it clear the rear hub (since it is welded on)? I haven't checked and thought I would ask.

The axles have a different bolt pattern for the sprocket so 82 axle needs an 82 sprocket .

The 200s axle will work with no issues on a 1983 185s so that might help in your search .

Thanks Shortline. The 83 axle has a sprocket on it, that looks good... so I will just use the whole shebang. The hubs on mine are welded on, so I will have to cut the axle off and end up buying new hubs. Hopefully I can find a set of good hubs on the cheap.

Was a grease zerk standard on the rear carrier, or did guys just add them on? I have a whole in mine, and I imagine there was a zerk that broke off. I will buy another zerk, and a nut, and weld the nut over the whole and thread the zerk back in (or that is the current plan). Sorry for all the questions, I have been out of the loop for a while! - Jeff

I wouldn't cut the axle, that will weaken it. Your best bet is to find an 83 or newer 185s or 200s axle. I made the mistake of buying an 82 axle on the same thinking as you. Now I have an extra axle I need to sell. You can find them on eBay, but people want a lot for them.

Try posting a parts wanted ad on Craig's list, that's how I found my axle (and a whole parts bike for $50)
