hey guys, had the rear axle lock up on my 110 figured it was the brake so i pulled the drum off and the pads had delaminated and fallen off the shoes. so i figured it would be a good time to replace the axle bearings while i had everything apart as it has never been done. after searching around i couldnt find anything specific for the 110 but i watched a video of a guy doing it to a 200s and he just pulled all the brake hardware off and the chain etc. and was able to hammer on the right side and the axle slid out of the carrier. is it possible the bearings are seized on the axle, or am i missing something? anyone else done this job successfully? TIA

It's possible but rare. You are following the service manual procedure right? You have all the stuff removed from the left side? Usually just a short pop with a mallet is sufficient.

One time I saw where the bearing was so bad that it got real hot and wore a groove in the axle. The inner part fit down in there and was a bear to get apart but that was a really really bad bearing

i have a haynes manual that i was following, but the procedure they were showing was on an earlier model 110 (79 or 80?) and it was fairly similar, but vague. everything was unbolted, i had the complete rear axle assy out but saw in the video that the guy left it bolted into the frame and was able to hammer the axle out. i dont want to hammer on it too much and bugger up the threads for the hub. does anyone use any other methods? i can take some pics tonight of where i am at if that will help

Well I always put the nut on the end of a shaft before hammering. Just what my dad taught me. And if you have the carrier out I'd use a press if available. I'll look in my manuals and see. Pics would be great help

The Haynes manual is good. I do have a Honda manual that covers that model. If you want to PM me your email address I'll send you the rear axle section.

I'm betting it's just rusted on the a little. Some penetrating oil and a press will likely solve the problem.

I have a little propane torch that works wonders. Its not hot enough to get anything red hot and possibly mess anything up but it combined with some wd-40 has worked wonders for me in the passed. It especially work wonder on my 200x on which my disk brake holder was completely seized on the axle. It took a big hammer to get that rechet thing off. but do remember to put a nut on the axle spline it will really save an axle when you beating on it.

thanks, i will try some heat and see if i can get it to move. i looked through the manual that devilsclaw sent me and i have everything dissasembled to the point where the axle should just slide out but it isnt budging, hopefully some heat will help.
