View Full Version : Good rear tires to plow with for a Honda 250SX

Hello,
I'm thinking about replacing the stock tires on the 250SX with a more aggressive thread. I've heard Mud Shark tires are good for plowing, but I'm looking for some suggestions from folks who actually use their machine to plow with.
I'm sort of on the fence with tire chains, just looking for the best all around combination.
Thanks

Some folks say 'for snow' or 4 snow tires are good.
We simply flipped the chevron tires on backwards and they pull twice as hard as
the others in snow.
Kinda like a "V" shape with the point of the 'v' aiming backwards.
Everyone makes fun that they're backwards but they work great.
We also 'aim' the front tire backwards too as they have no propulsion traction but
more important to have grip for braking.
Dontcha just love the sx models?

I have had good luck in the winter with AMS Swamp Fox tires. The rubber seems to stay soft and pliable even in very cold temperatures.

4Snows are hands down the best snow tire you will ever get. The tread is directional and self cleaning and the lugs are feathered rather than scooped. Putting a tractor tread backwards is not how you move in the snow. Scooping and digging in that fashion gets you stuck fast. The 4Snows are designed to propel you on top of the snow and their feathered tread pushes the machine up off the snow. However, for plowing with tire chains I could see the use of a tractor tread or mud tire being a better choice than the 4Snows only with the addition of chains. No chains and the 4Snows are king.

I 2nd the 4snows, I've used them for three winters now and no other tires I've used perform as well as they do in the snow.

Thanks fab et al.
I couldn't remember the name...4 snow.
Do they expand on acceleration to clear the treads or something tricky like that?

In snow. I would consider paddle tires.

Chains (V chains)on a old bald set of tires that way you can put them on when you need them. And chains will work on ice where normal rubber tires will not

Maxxis 4-snow. When aired down a set of 4-snow has so much forward traction it is hard to steer.

Indeed they do Dr which makes them a great choice for drag racing as well.
