View Full Version : carburetor vinyl tubing
Hey guys. I'm about to rebuild my carb and I'd like to replace the clear vinyl tubes on it as they're pretty hard now. However, I'd rather not drop $25 for them thru Honda. Does anyone have a good local source for them (Home Depot, etc) that might be less expensive? Honda seems a little high for a couple of clear hoses. haha
Thanks
Marty

Check with Sudco they sell it, it's a Keihin part and they are the distributor of Keihin.
Sadly, they don't show pricing so you must call.

The difference is that neoprene is not manufactured to be used with fuel, which is why it turns rock hard.
Plus it has the wrong OD so the factory clamps don't fit correctly.

Cool, stick with it.
I just sold a carb that had the Keihin lines on it from 1993 and they were nice, I guess time will tell with your set-up.

The Lowes on Grand Ave.?
I will be there grabbing a complete bolt kit for a 350X, going with the 10mm heads, bigger is better, I will buy you a Chicago dog and a Sarsaparilla, but the Home Depot across the street has a better cart.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with using those whatsoever, and that is an xlnt alternative to the stupidly overpriced Honda lines that only cost around 20 cents to make . . Home Depot and True Value all sell the same line and it will work just fine . . It's certainly not something you would want to use for fuel line though, however, since they are drain and vent lines, and gas may never even go thru them, and they are easily visible and easily replaceable, all you have to do is take a quick look at them periodically and spend another 27 cents a foot for new ones if they ever go bad . . At that rate, it might take you around 287 years before you have spent anywhere close to $25.00 on them.
People should keep in mind that it is just a Honda and not a Ferrari....or a TECATE...The Most Powerful 3 Wheeler In The World! . . God I love sayin that. http://www.mustang.org.au/forum/Smileys/smilies/hysterical.gif

Vinyl hardens within days. You want polyurethane like this:

Interesting to see some of the people that won't tolerate anyone questioning their buddies choices sitting here mocking somebody for offering an affordable option for clear line.
Very interesting.
Boy traffic sure is slow around here. Wonder why.
Could possibly be because people are sick of hearing about how complicated rear shocks and how fast tiny motors are.
I have a suspicion that somebody here with all this info doesn't even own a 3 wheeler.
Let's see where that takes us, shall we.
OOHH I see a moderator checking in already!! FUN FUN!!
I see you too J, bring it. I'll be all over your thread like white on rice on a paperplate in a snowstorm.

Hey look, traffics going up already! Imagine that, more than one single way of thinking and one tiny clique of internet gurus stroking each others ego's day after day after day and telling everyone how to do stuff!

LOL! How's it going DOHC? Long time no see. Funny what you said there, I was thinking exactlyt the same thing when I saw Barnett post. I wonder if he'll ever get around to owning a trike?
Here's some gibberish on fuel line if anyone wants to look.http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2014/12/05/tech-101-fuel-line-hose-what-you-should-and-should-not-use/
My personal experience is that it turns harder than a goats dick after a while. From what I've read it's impervious to solvents, but exposure to UV rays hardens it.
Good to see you back.

A while? We are going to need some hard evidence on how long both of these things take to happen. :naughty:

The tube seems to need about a month from what I've seen on my bikes, more so when used as vent line than fuel line, but we'd need Barnett to calculate the angle of the sun, daily UV index, sun flare burst, fuel octane etc., to be sure how long it would take in the OP's riding area.
As far as the goat goes Barnett may have already done that research, but if someone else want to take a shot at it I have no objections.

Glamy does like having his spaces filled.
Barnett is just fine. I like pushing his buttons sometimes and he will definitely try to build your project for you for seventeen pages of thread and he loves the RaceTech but I still respect him. I just wish he would focus his OCD into a whole thread about Kawi R&D and racing. If he would stop pissing off his ex gfs so they would stop burning all his possessions we would have some killer pics by now.

Yes I agree, cheap tubing usually hardens quickly. I've also seen a lot of moderately priced tubing that hardens as well. Parts unlimited fuel line, the blue stuff, is complete trash.
What I will add is that if somebody has alternatives for tubing that cost a couple bucks for us to talk about or even try (oh wow real world testing? shite), i'm all for that, as opposed to mocking them as a group and laughing them off the site for trying to provide somebody with a tip. It gets way to gang like in here with some of you guys. Always has, and that's why people are leaving and not coming back.
Blame it on facebook.

That blue stuff is CRAP! Soft as a kitten till it sees use. I still have some here that went rock hard after I used it to siphon a tank... ONCE!
Pingel sells the best fuel line I have ever used: http://www.pingelonline.com/pc_product_detail.asp?key=6172A8D7456F425895FF102F E41F70BA

I get some clear blue atv fuel line from a local farm store here in montana that is about $5.50 for 5 feet and the only time it hardens is when it's cold out and then it just stiffens have been using it for 5 years on the same carb and still works fine for me. it is not fuel resistant on the out side, inside only. I believe the brand is raider atv comes in 3/16 1/4 and 5/16 id's
