Decided to start tearing down motors today. 84 200x, 83 200e, and 84 200s, to take the best shape parts from each to build one solid runner. On the 200e I found two of the 4 friction plates were worn out and totally smooth but 2 plates were still within speck. I am going to pick up all new friction plates but want to know what may cause this. If it is something bent I want to be sure to replace that as well. Anyone see this before?225492

Look at the hub and basket. I suspect there will be dimples and smears in both. This is likely what caused some plates to get hung up and wear out faster than others. Unless you repair or replace them your new clutch pack will suffer the same fate.

.
Yes, as mentioned and here's one of the things you are looking for . . If there are actual depressions/wear on the hub on the face of these "gears/splines, it is possible for the plates to get caught on them . . One fix is to file the face of the gear flat then you can finish smoothing it by hand with around 400 wet/dry sand paper and water, or wrap the sand paper around a flat file then use that and some water as the final smoothing process.
If any of the plates have any wear on them on the tabs, I would trash them.
If your hub and or basket are really bad, check on Ebay for good used ones.

Look for the same marks on the basket as suggested . . This is an extreme example of wear and needs to be replaced . . If yours only has minor wear, you can perform the same process on it.
