I'm sure most of you know what GOKI is. I had sent a message to Terry at GOKI last night asking for some technical information. This is the response I got:
I am sorry, I can't help you Goki is another one of Obama's victim's

Hi Terry,
Do you have a PDF copy of the ATC-105 installation instructions? I have an 1984 ATC 200S I bought and the Goki wiring is all hacked up. Also, did the kit include a longer decompression cable? I would like to get this straightened out and working.
Have a great day.

So GOKI is gone............

Jim, picked up a used one from a member earlier this year at the Invasion and don't know if I have all the needed parts to install on a motor. Do know that the ring gear had damaged teeth the PO weld repaired so was thinking about purchasing a new one. Instruction sheet directions would be helpful too.

I have a good Goki 350x ring gear if you need one .

Ok Harry, I have two 350X Goki stator covers, one 350X flywheel with a good ring gear on it, one spare new ring gear, full installation package, and battery box with the solenoid. I also have misc cables, push button, and brackets. What I don't have are starters, and the pigtail you plug in to the tail light wire to charge the battery. What do you need?

Thanks Mike for the offer. As we know the stators and flywheels are different 85 to 86, will the ring gear fit either flywheel? Jim I have the starter, cover, battery box, solenoid, push button and a cobbled up mess of a couple yellow and blue wires (might be the pigtail). Installation instructions would help me clarify any other possible missing components. Whats the pigtail look like (picture) and its make-up to change the electrical current to DC voltage? sorry for the high-jack.

I believe the ring gear is the same, it's the mounting flange on the starter that is different. One moves the starter closer to the center line of the engine ( I think the '86 flywheel is closer to the center ).

Thanks Bob, adds another variable to installation. To understand your statement, due to the construction of the '86 flywheel the ring gear is positioned further along the crankshaft tapper closer to crankcase. This would then make the gear tooth pitch centerline engagement shallow, just catching the tips.

Harry, send me your mailing address and I'll drop the instructions in the mail. I have that inverter pigtail somewhere ad I'll shoot you a pic when I find it.

I believe the difference between the 85 and 86 kit was a wiring change if my memory serves me correctly.

The part numbers for the ring gear and the starter motor are all the same for the 111 kits for both years.

Correct. I bought my kit off ebay, it said it was for a '85. I wanted to put it on an '86. So I got in touch with Goki to find out what I had to do to make it work. They had their "ATC" specialist call me back. He said the only thing different in the kit was the flange mounting flange on the starter motor, and if I had the wrong flange they would send me the other one in trade for free. BUT, he also told me that some of the early '86 350x's had the same flywheel distance as the '85. So he had me install the kit, remove the spark plug, "blue off" the gears, just like you would when setting up a rear end on a car, and run the starter for a few seconds. He told me that the teeth should have al least 75 percent engagement. If any less, I have the wrong flange. If any more it would likely not engage at all and bind up. This is one of the reasons that there is so much ring gear failure on these things. The starter is either skipping across the top of the gears or it's bound up and just hammering them. Regardless of what kit or what year the trike has, it needs to be checked to make sure the gear engagement is correct.

By the way, as it turned out, my trike is running the '85 kit on a '86 350x. The ring gear is holding up, but my starter shaft snapped. I believe I accidently hit the starter button when bouncing through some rocks.

Well crap that really sucks. The kit we bought is in good working order, but I was hoping/counting on them being there for any hiccups down the line. I would have bought a spare starter had I known this was coming. Might email them, and ask if they have any spare parts lying around they would come off of.

Bob, that's exactly what I thought. Will check tooth engagement during installation.
