ok i have an engine in my 200s and i got this bike used for cheap not running and i had some things to inspect and gaskets to change, i put ALL to factory spec CLEANED everything put it together and it STARTS in the first pull i let it idle and warm up jump on and drive abit and it shuts downs and will not restart again in one pull once cold, im thinking its time for the new rings and gaskets i have here, i was told maybe the valves are out but i set all that and rechecked 3times, and the fact it only starts while COLD tells me that its the rings, im i right? and one last question because its not that i doubt myself and what i read in the Honda manual, question is the way the rings go, its the nice sharp one with two 90 degree angles on top (Compression ring) and then the one with the bevel goes bevel gap/angle going up as the SECOND( Oil scraper?) and then the two oil rings, and this is the CORRECT way i see in the MANUAL, why then has it been the 2 bikes and one engine i bought were all reversed beveled on top and double 90's in the middle(WRONG), me i put it the way the manuals say and im just making sure im reading that right and hondas not putting them backwards because the one has NEVER been apart from what i know and seen, REALLY WEIRD EH...lol any info?

Most likely losing spark. If it starts 1st pull, and doesn't smoke. Your engine is not the culprit. When it quits, see if you have lost spark or fuel, and go from there. Most likely spark will be the culprit. Coil or coil wire.

You made it that far ?

The lettering on the rings face up.......Run a continuity test and check loose connections.....Might as well do a thorough carb service while your at it.

You need to check spark and compression to see what's going on. Shutting down while hot then starting again once cooled off is often a sign of a bad coil. Next time it does it pull the plug and see if you still have spark, if not you probably need a new coil. If you don't have or can't borrow a compression tester a $10 harbor freight one is better than nothing.

The CDI is bad.

It sounds like valves too me. Everyone else is saying ignition but really get the motor hot and check your compression and valve lash.

the rings ARE JUNK, sure it will START ONLY WHEN COLD and EVERYTIME i start it, it idles less and less before shutting off to not run again until COLD and for you GUYS who don't wanna read what the hell are you doing on here?, and i thought you needed INFO TO KNOW WHAT WAS UP SO much FOR NEEDING YOUR assholish ANSWERS, AND if YOU DID READ IT i have spark when it shuts down, It RUNS, IT runs for however long and SHUTS OFF AND WONT START, I PULL THE PLUG and check it and NICE BRIGHT BLUE SPARK, you guys cant tell me NOTHING i cant figure out by reading the service manuals, so don't worry i won't make you lazy asses READ any more, and kiss my ass if you dont like "Proper Punctuation", would you rather, MY engine don't run and then you same guys ASK FOR MORE INFO so WHICH IS IT, i give NO INFO and you ask for it OR I GIVE IT RIGHT AWAY? MAKE UP YOUR DAMN MINDS

OH and compression was around 45 POUNDS SO I NEED RINGS like i said and THOUGHT in the first place so READ ALL THE INFO FIRST and you may KNOW what i said i did and DIDN'T in the first place , Thanks for really NOTHING i already didn't do or already didn't know, like i said IT is NOT SPARK BUT REBUILD TIME, i just wanted a second though before doing all the work, but i guess no one wants to read anymore and why they join forums and then complain about ME giving PROPER INFO to work from then DON'T RESPOND to any of the threads i start then BECAUSE I WILL BE INCLUDING the INFO you may need to give a PROPER ANSWER.

They gave you some good answers and you yell at them? He wants proper english not proper info i think. Rebuild it and add a new coil and stator just to be safe.

Tourettes, much?
Low compression makes it hard to start when cold, not when hot.
However the valve clearance when hot suggestion is a slight possibility.

I'll buy it for $12 dollars and not a penny less.

I say check your valve clearance. If that's good, do a "wet" compression test. That's where you pull the plug and squirt a little oil into the cylinder. This helps to seal the rings temporarily. Then check your compression again. If your compression is higher with a "wet" test, then your rings are worn, but with only 45 psi, if the valves are within spec, then it's likely your rings like you say.

I don't even see how the engine would run with only 45psi compression. I agree with the statement above though, do a wet compression test and see if you get higher results. Another possible thing it could be is the head gasket. Is the cylinder covered in oil/grease?
The reason why you got a bit of a negative response is because your hole post is a single paragraph long sentence. Breaking up with periods helps make your posts much easier to read. Not trying to be a grammar nazi, but I had a hard time following the posts as well. I'm not perfect, and I know my grammar and spelling sucks pretty bad, so I'm not really qualified to complain. No reason to take offense, or try to fight back, it was offered as advice rather indirect or direct.
