I've been watching for this thread since new years. I have a strong line up of trikes in the works, hoping to have them all running this year. I do need to find a hard tale to rent for a morning so I can participate in the round pounds ride. And who else is excited for Action Pants Thursday!?

I've got the same pair of "action pants" I've had for going on 5 years. They are incredibly comfy and on the Thursday of TF it's the only day of the year my upper thighs see sunlight. It is amazing. Chicks dig them too. I can not believe the stares I get when I wear mine. I think the fairer sex is always trying to get a good look at my gentlemen sausage when I wear them - I can't blame them honestly. Regardless - real men wear these!

Sadly folks, Samjp22 and I are bowing out this year. Too many excuses to blame just one but they all add up to......NO TRIKEFEST this year! :-( I'm quite sure you will all survive quite well without seeing the "Slow, Beavers at Play" sign at the Canuck camp. Hopefully Mattdragontamer can come on down.

I put in for the entire week off more than six months early. I was told a week ago that I won't be told if I get it until a month before. I'm already getting everything ready to ride. I hope to bring 4 or 5 three wheelers with me. Hope I can find some springer forks at a decent price for my 185s by then would love to have that there but paying more for forks than I spent on the whole atc bothers me.

And if speed is more your thing, there is also an NEEDT TT race at a Milan MX in Michigan on July 4 weekend.

But back on topic, there are many reasons TrikeFest is held in at Haspin.
One is that people come from Boston, Florida, Canada, Texas, the UP, etc.
Indiana is fairly central in the US for people coming from every direction.
Another reason is that it has trail riding, MX track(s), drag strip, mud bogs, hillclimbs and more all in one place.

It's hardly March and I feel I'm behind the 8 ball for this trip. The YTM should have been ready a month ago, but a misplaced hammer blow and a piss poor ebay seller have set me back. The Tri-Z parts have been at the powder coaters for over a week and every call to them gets me another "mañana". I suspect test and tune will be taking place on site.

I'm sure it will all work out, but I hate the idea of doing any wrenching the night before I pull out on a trip.

Welcome to the world of Trikefest !! This will be my 10th year and the week before is always a thrash fest. No matter how much I plan ahead or how early I start, it always comes down to the last week. It "usually" works out, lol. Good luck and see you there.

I'm really looking forward to this.:w00t: The trikes are getting all my attention until such time as there is nothing left to do but wax them and wait to load up.

It's going to be weird meeting people I've know for years on here for the first time. I always get a mental picture of what someone looks like either by phone or email and then when you meet them face to face they're nothing like what you were expecting.

I'd hate to drive all that way only to miss the opportunity to at least say hello to a lot of people on this site that I hope will be there. I was thinking to maybe bring a Mexican flag and put it on the roof of my truck as a beacon for anyone who cares to come by to say 'hola" and have a shot of tequila.:welcome: I can't think of anyone on this site I wouldn't want to meet.

My right hand is killing me, so fist bumps may have to replace handshakes that week. See you there! :beer

One of the very nicest parts of being at 3ww TrikeFest meets IMHO is you don't really need a tour guide. Just wander from camp to camp + meet and great.
Nobody at a particular camp,,,, just means you have someplace to go back to.
I admit I have long lost my interest in riding that place. Its the people and events that keep me coming back year after year.
I normally put 5 to 10 miles on my trike,,,, camp to camp,,,, getting ice, to tracks. I get out of 2nd. gear ~ occasionally :)

Usually it's quite easy to figure out who people are and where they camp. I camped with some TF vets so they knew everyone so that helped. Someone would drive by hey that's so and so. Or hey come meet wheezy. Or buying stickers off of John and meeting the guys from Europe. Or at the shoe tree and meeting coolpool half lit in the middle of the night. The Canadians are pretty easy to spot haha. And people like MRSOUND had a great idea and put a sign in front of their camp saying who's camped there. Or me, Wednesday I think I just rode around with my TRUPA shirt that had Ghost on the back and everyone's like hey what's up. I have parts for you for your pauter you've been looking for. You end up meeting everyone by accident. I lucked out and already knew a lot of the east coast TF vets.

I hope for less mud and rain this year though. Man that was bad.

I agree with the meet and greet part of Trikefest being the best part. I've said this before, when you go for the first time, it's like going to a big family reunion where you've never met any of the family before. I meet new people every time I go. It's awesome! I'm ready!

I wasn't planning on making it this year. We are trying to buy a farm so money for toys is verboten and I sold my 200X. The R or the A2 won't be done by then either so I'm without running trike.

Since Nico was coming up all the way from the other side of the fence and I would miss others, I think I'm going to make the 4hr drive to camp over with Eric250R in the Confederate Culdesac again. Not all week like last year but a couple days or so. I'll probably try to meet more ppl this year since we mostly just rode the last two years.

Maybe somebody will rent or loan me a trike for putting around

Keister: I seem to recall Coolpool posting he couldn't make it this year.:( Hope I'm wrong, but swear I saw him post it a month or so back. Looking forward to meeting you and others. White Chevy with Mexican plates, white Tri-Z, gray hair.

Fabio's been pushing be to do this for a few years, so I was hoping to show up Monday or Tuesday at the latest and camp by his rig. (I may end up scratching on his door like an abandoned puppy it the weather goes bad.;))

Of course all this is contingent on no family emergencies, driving a newer model truck with two shiny trikes in tow through narco land and crossing and International border with a flippant attitude. Here's to hoping:beer

Last year I installed air bags, an trans oil cooler a new hitch and all the wiring for the toy hauler plug. I need to check the timing belt and fix the E brakes on my truck.

The 350RX is 100% as is the other 350X and the 87 200X, which now has the boyesen stage 3 adjustable leak jet and hot start have made the tuning allot easier.

The Dirtblaster has seen some time on the bench. Until I get a pipe on there 100%, I can't even put the motor in the correct place. Not sure if that will make it....

Last and biggest is the Toy Hauler. I said I'd fix it right and have made some progress. I tore the entire 8' x 8' floor out and it's been replaced with PT 3/4" plywood. What an undertaking that was!! That was all I got done before winter hit. I need to redo the shower and replace all the wood in the front of it. This was all due to 1 roof leak not fixed but thats why it was so cheap and I was aware of the issues. Then, luan on the floor and some vinyl. I started plating and welding all the suspension because I've read about bending and cracking. I tore the gas tank and pump system out only because I need to keep the weight down and I really don't need it.

Last, 5 new rims and D rated tires (another failure point), The OEM was rated "C" which should be D or even E rated.

Lots to do but I'll get it done.....

Sure wish Coolpool could make it - won't be the same without him.

.....Otherwise, that is an excellent plan. Fabio parks at the top of the grassy knoll about 400 paces from our camp. That lineup (Fabio, Howdy, MattDragontamer?, Mik6, Swinehart) is the first row of camps you pass as you enter TrikeFest - it's like a welcoming committee or TF receiving line - of sorts.

Wherever you end up, I will certainly be stopping in for a quick nip of tequila...... and you'll get to experience your first PolarisShot.

You guys are really getting me thinking of how much fun it is on the longest days of the year in June at Haspin Acres. I can not wait for it to get here. Looks like I will be flying solo this year. Nina is not planning on coming this year unfortunately, as we are taking a vacation a few weeks prior and she is having issues leaving the kids twice in one month. I have a long list of things to do to get ready this year - but am probably ahead of schedule in reality. I have 2 250R builds to finish up that I will be bringing with me. Trikefest is the goal to have them done by. The 450 is ready to go as are the 200S's. I'm psyched big time. Gonna be a great year!

Looks like I might change gears just a little bit this year. My sons (11 and 13) are finally showing interest in the trikes!!! So I'm planning on bringing them this year and (if they enjoy it) maybe it will start an annual family tradition or something!?! Last year was my 1st Trikefest and (without the kids) I was able to get a little rowdy and get some things out of my system. As fun as that was, I am really pumped up about bringing the kids this time. It will be a little different this year, but it will be on another level of cool!

I've heard rumors that Haspin has been trying to stop night riding.

keister
05-23-2016, 11:54 AM
Here is a copy paste of Haspin's rules from their web site.

http://www.haspinacres.com/plan-your-visit/rules-3/

Haspin Acres Off Road & Motocross Park Rules:
ALL VISITORS MUST SIGN A WAIVER FORM BEFORE ENTERING THE PARK!
Helmets and safety equipment are required.
No riding after 10:00 PM or before 6:00 AM.
Follow all posted speed limit signs.
Maintain a 20-foot clear distance from all fences.
DO NOT CROSS ANY DOWNED FENCES!!!
No hunting at any time.
NO FIREARMS!!! SHOOTING A GUN OF ANY KIND ON PARK PROPERTY IS GROUNDS FOR IMMEDIATE EJECTION FROM THE PARK WITHOUT A REFUND! IF YOU DISCHARGE A FIREARM ON PARK PROPERTY, YOU WILL BE BANNED FROM THE PARK FOR LIFE AND MAY FACE LEGAL CONSEQUENCES! THE DISCHARGE OF A FIREARM ON PARK PROPERTY IS A SERIOUS OFFENSE AND WILL NOT BE TOLERATED! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Fires are to be maintained and supervised at all times. WOODEN PALLETS ARE STRICTLY FORBIDDEN FROM BEING USED AS FIREWOOD! Burning wooden pallets leaves behind nails. When it rains, the nails wash away to the trails and can easily puncture tires! DO NOT bring wooden pallets to our park!
No fires in the shelters.
Do not cut standing trees.
Swimming in the ponds is permitted AT YOUR OWN RISK! ABSOLUTELY NO DIVING!
Riding is not permitted on pond banks.
Buggies and/or trucks are not permitted on motocross tracks.
If you must leave the park for any reason, proof of entry must be shown at the front Admissions Office before re-entering the park.
Campsite trash is to be placed in a garbage can before leaving the park.
Drunken or obnoxious behavior will not be tolerated.
Children 14 years of age and younger must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times.
No one under 18 years of age will be permitted without a liability sheet signed by his or her parents.

Point being, night riding has never been permitted at Haspin (see rule #3).

Many years ago, we asked if we could ride campsite to campsite at night if we did it slowly and quietly.
That extended to night rides to the shoe tree over a decade ago.

Provided people aren't blasting around the campsites at night, I would think they would continue to overlook that rule under the "Trikefest exception."
As long as we use common sense and follow rule #17, we should still be allowed to shoe tree cruise at night.

Haspin Management makes several exceptions on our behalf.
Example: The restroom are open all night for TF, they get locked up after 10pm the rest of the year.

Bottom line is this:
If we follow rule 17, we probably won't be subject to rule 3.
If anyone has heard news to the contrary, please share details.

Campsite trash is to be placed in a garbage can before leaving the park.

This will be my first TF, but I've heard some pretty unflattering things about how that place looks at the end of the week. I am bringing 100 heavy duty 50 gallon trash bags and encourage everyone else to bring some too. If you forget or run out of trash bags PLEASE swing by my truck for a freebee.

I like to leave places better than I found them, gets me invited back every time. :beer

Do it man! I hate when people leave trash behind. Everyone that sees it afterwards thinks the worst of the people that left it there. Wouldn't it be nice if the gossip around the town was that the trikers always leave it cleaner that it was when they pulled in? All it takes is for everyone to pick up all their own trash plus one piece that was there before they showed up. Pretty easy way to make sure the park is glad to have you back.

Great post!! We have been through this issue several times.
Some guys even brought some cardboard trash bins one year.
Fact is, Haspin has hundreds of steel 55 gallon trash barrels throughout the park.
People get better about this every year.
I'd estimate that at least 75-85% of Trikefesters "get it" at this point.
We've come a long way.

Biggest problem areas are:
River (off Haspin property) - trash bags are definitely needed there.
Backbone - there are cans, but with soooooo many people, we could use some trash bags there too.
Shoe Tree - One 55 gallon drum holds about ~2 hours worth of 12oz aluminum cans. Apparently some very thirsty folks!!

If you have butter bowls in your cabinet ( and who doesn't ) fill them with water, and freeze them. If you only have 1 bowl, start freezing early, pop it out and keep doing it. Make enough to line the bottom of your cooler. If you have a good cooler they will last almost the entire week.

Here's one I learned from Mr. Clean in the desert a few years back.

Freeze an entire case of bottled water.
Intermix the bottles in your coolers with your food, water, and other beverages.
Use them as ice blocks in "trail coolers" and drink them during the week, as needed, in various states of thaw.
Bonus: doesn't leave water behind to make your food soggy.

Best way to get to TF from TX? Anyone familiar with these two routes?

I leave out of West Texas. Map Quest shows two options. #1 is up I44 East Option #2 is on I30 and them merge with I44

Option one looks to be almost an hour shorter than option #2, but there are a couple guys near I30 I wouldn't mind popping in on depending on the time.

Have any of you traveled both? I prefer to avoid major construction and a lot of hills, but a little scenery would be nice. Talk to me.

Trikes have been lost, my trike once left my campsite without me, I've seen a trike lose its triker for a couple hours, and then I saw 2 grown men argue (jokingly) about who was friends with someone (the argument ended with,"Well, I found him first"), but I haven't seen anyone ride off on someone else's trike. Awesome!!! I will do everything in my power to try and get a two wheeler out there. Switched out the mountain jets, changed the seat, repaired the pull straps and swapped shocks last night. if you plan on any night riding you at least need something to let other riders know you're there. With a little bit of alcohol and alot of speed, a dark trail isn't the ideal place to meet someone. Most who ride a machine without a headlight will usually strap a flash light or led light somewhere on the machine or themselves.

El Camexiacan - I usually park the two wheeler at night (mine has lights and is street legal). For whatever reason my Blood Alcohol Content always seems to rise once the sun goes down at Trikefest. It is a very strange occurrence. Will be great if we can hit some knarly trails on the bikes.

I once grabbed another girl at Trikefest (late night at the shoe tree)and started stroking her back in a most romantic way - then I looked at her and it was not my significant other. Must have very been embarrassing for her.

I'll have my KTM 350EXCF there and would love to do some riding with you at Haspin. It's pretty fun blasting around on a bike for one day while at TF!

I'm bringing my XR most likely and Billy is bringing his street bike. Shenanigans are planned.

Louis - do you have street tires on it or dual sport tires? Just curious if you wanna play in the dirt with me. I like playing in the dirt with you. My KTm basically sucks on the street. I could take it out for maybe 1/2 hour / 45 minutes at most before my buttocks are literally killing me. Not sure about Indiana state law, but here in PA - it is illegal to stand while riding on the street.

Awesome!!! I will do everything in my power to try and get a two wheeler out there. Switched out the mountain jets, changed the seat, repaired the pull straps and swapped shocks last night. All I need is a tank of fuel and a spot on the trailer and I'm there! I assume I don't "need" a light on the bike, right?

My buddy's boss just confirmed he has the time off to come with me. He's bringing 2 bikes YZ400F & YZ250F.

So this is my first Trikefest. Are there any people that play music in the campsites? I've wondered if I needed to bring my upright bass for any little impromptu acoustic jams. I would expect some southern boys (but not limited to) picking some bluegrass, but I've never noticed it mentioned. Beer and mason jars seem to bring out the music in people.

There has been talk in the past of Trikefest Jam Sessions, but it never seems to come together. People get all horny about trikes and forget about music. I've seen a couple guitars floating around, but have never seen or heard anyone actually playing music.

I've made a thread a couple years ago willing to bring thousands of dollars worth of concert equipment to put on something and nobody wanted to participate. Everyone thought it was a bad idea and a waste of time. Which yea, everyone gets a hard-on over trikes and even forget to eat all day (guilty). I do stay hydrated by drinking my Canadian beer though.

I only play drums, but I do have my entire bands equipment. A nice travel PA system and all. Small scale show stuff. It's a cool idea, but wouldn't happen.

If I'm riding solo I'll be in Wednesday afternoon. If my brother comes along we wont be able to leave until early Thursday morning. Definitely staying until Sunday afternoon again. Enjoyed every minute of last year's mud fest. It was an excellent break from the real world as I had just gone through a rough divorce prior to trikefest and I kept to myself just relaxing and enjoying the vacation. I look forward to meeting more of you this year!

Trikes and bike are loaded, tools are packed, gear is packed, trailer is connected to the truck, lights have been checked, truck is spotless, fresh oil, new rubber, trailer tire pressures checked, tank full, copies of all titles and import documents are packed, GPS is programed, clothes are laid out for the morning, alarms (two) are set for 4:30am. What the heck did I forget to do or pack???? Arrrge, I doubt I'll be able to sleep. I think all I need to do is shower, dress, down a coffee and put the frozen salsa and water in the cooler. Swimming trunks.....there's a river down by the entrance we go sit in when it gets hot...big pond too I think you can fish in...bring tools to work on your rides and spare plugs. Backpacks are nice to load up on water and snacks or whatever so you can ride with that cargo comfortably.

ATV TOW STRAP. Is also handy if you ride off into a big mudhole your buddy can pull you out. We pulled out a half dozen ppl last year.

Lots of dry socks.....monkey butt paste......you know, the usual stuff

The terrain is lots of good sized hills, trees, about 30% rocky, the rest white clay and sandy mud....and whatever is going on with the MX track and the dragstrip.

I'm so pissed about not going. I was actually still debating on turning up in the car Solo on Friday just to hang out.

Then yesterday morning I finally decided to go to the ER over a crazy irregular heartbeat I've had for three days straight. Turns out I had a big old A-fib attack causing the irregular beat but I also had an SVT attack which is why my heart rate was about 135-155 BPM for three days. Tried to "fix it myself". No dice.

So now I got home last night from the ER all doped up and I have friggin Cardiologist appointments for the rest of the week while they try to decide if they have to go in and laser off some nerves that make my heart beat.

Looks like I may be stuck in town and ATV riding is a NO until I get this figured out. I still got that giant stuck kidney stone too soooo i better play it smart this time. I tend to get myself into some healthcare nightmares on a regular basis due to ignorance on my part.

Somebody please get me a TF hoodie in 2XL and I'll PP the money back to ya!

Dang Doug that sounds bad! My foot is still swelling and my back is still sore. I have an appointment with the surgeon on Friday that worked on my foot. His advice, my current pain level, the temparature, will decide if I force the wife to drive me across the state or not. Yeah Blackwater was one of a kind, that is for sure. One year, a buddy of mine(who was a good GNCC racer) drew a start right behind GNCC trike champ-Tom Tokay, so he thought "this is perfect, I'll follow Tom and do whatever he does!" He said it was so rough and Tom was so fast that his trike literally fell apart trying to hang with Tom on the first lap. My father-in-law is on the cover of a dirt-wheels issue in 1986, right in the middle of the 93 river crossing...Mickey is on the same cover testing a Powroll 200x (he signed it for us at Breezewood!). Nope. I left haspin before 8am, just got picked up and loaded up my truck on a trailer, and I'll be home sometime after 3am. It's a long day, and one shitty birthday present. One very expensive present just to get it home. Still gotta figure all that out yet.

Yea I walked around and tried to live the homeless life for about 8 hours until my ride came with a car trailer. Went to goodwill, found a cool mug from the early 80's when Epcot first opened, went to Walmart to get some locks to lock my bikes up to my truck, and then bounced back and forth from sonic to a park like 2 miles down the road to sit without "loitering". Finally got picked up at like 9pm. ETA now says 6am, guess I'm not making it to work tomorrow.

Got some blisters from walking around in flip flops all day. The last Sunday of trikefest always sucks right? Some more than others I guess.

Even billy made it home before me, and he's all the way in north Florida eating armadillos probably by now.

Made it home at about 7am. 24 hours since I left haspin the day before. Parked her in the Dakota graveyard. I had a lot of people offer to come back and figure any way possible to come and help me out and I appreciate it. But when your 7 hours from home that's a lot to ask of someone. I even had a cop stop when I was sitting in my truck and asked if I was coming from haspin acres, I said yea. How'd you even know about it? He goes everyone coming from this way is leaving from there, your from PA? Yea. He goes your nuts for driving all this way just to ride.

Damn Ghost, that certainly sucks.

At the risk of sounding like a dick, I'll say at least it happened on the way home rather than the way there. Glad you finally made it home.

What a great experience my first Trikefest was! I was able to spend the better part of 9 days at Haspin with no Internet and very limited phone service which was just enough to make the odd call home, but not enough to have received more than a few work related calls the entire time. It was the longest vacation I’ve had since I was 11 years old.

I was made to feel welcome the moment I pulled up to the gate. There were only 5 people signed in for TF when I arrived and Dale Shively made the effort to come to the gate to welcome me like he’d known me for years and made sure I got to know Pete at the front desk. Soon after I unpacked I followed him to the Hall pits where we unloaded some fire wood and I got to meet Sandy Hall and the younger folks she was camped with.

The first night on the Hill was a little rough as my tent turned out to be smaller than my air mattress which in turn made the bottom of the tent rock like a banana after I’d stuffed it in there and I ended up sleeping in my truck mid-way through the night. Of the other Hill dwellers Jeswinehart arrived on Sunday and rolled in next to me and then Fabio who graciously welcomed me into his rolling crib and Howdy came in followed soon after by Captain Wheezy, Hoosierlogger and eventually the Stud over the course of the week and Matt and Mr. Sound were daily visitors. I believe there were about 48 trikers signed in by Sunday and the numbers grew each day after.

Never in my life have I been somewhere where everyone I met went out of their way to be so friendly and outgoing. No matter what camp I walked or rode by people were waving and calling me in to talk. No one was ever too busy, or in a rush to be on their way to somewhere else. Meeting the people I’d known on the site for so many years was a little like running into a movie star or a pro athlete in a hotel elevator, I get a sense of awe when I meet them in person. Very few people looked or spoke as I expected as I’m sure was the case when they met me for the first time

A week before the event I decided it would be a good idea to get an MX shirt made with my 3WW name on the back so as to encourage people from the site that I didn’t know to approach me. It paid off in spades on Saturday as I must have met 30 people that knew me from the site, but had never interacted with me on there. The most typical intro was “Hey, your that Camexican guy! I don’t post much, but I’ve read some of yours and…” I think one of the most memorable “shirt” encounters I had was with a guy whose camp site I’d pulled up to and had a great talk with him and then as I said goodbye and was walking away he saw my name on the shirt and called me back for what was another good talk chat as he didn’t know I was on the site till he noticed my name and that started a whole new conversation.

People offered me chances to ride trikes I’d never seen before and food and drink were passed around freely. Fabio gave me a place to sleep, Jswinehart cooked most every meal and Howdy was the camp maintenance man when not playing Super Dad. I don’t know what I contributed to the Hill. At first it was shade and ice, but that got blown away and melted LOL. I tried to keep the place clean as well, but everyone was doing a super job of picking up what the revelers had left the night before.

The people I met prior to Thursday were the most memorable as things were still pretty low paced at that time. The late night runs to the Shoe Tree, Bra Tree and the Backbone with John, Ben, Mike, Billy, Cheyenne, Tim, Nick, Bill, Curt, Johnathan, Josh and many, many others were a blast. At some point I overheard someone say “Why do we have to move?” as we were preparing to go from the Shoe Tree to the Backbone. At the time I wondered the same thing, but in retrospect it was a perfect way to break up the cliques that had formed and change the conversations so that everyone could meet everyone.
Brilliant plan :beer. I wish I could remember all the given and board names of the people I met. There were so many and all were great to talk to.

I believe it was Thursday night that the barrel races were held. The ground was rutted by runoff and the right hand side of the course was next to a mud bog trench, perfect! LOL! After watching a few very brave and skilled riders swing their 2 stroke trikes around the course I worked up the nerve to run another utility trike that had pulled up. As expected he finished way ahead of me as I fought the large low pressure rear tires of my trike around the cones. I would have called it a night after that first run, but Keister offered to run me again on his Polaris with oil reservoir shots to follow. How could I turn that down? Watching Sandy Hall rip around that course on her Zinger was almost as entertaining as watching her son run it and she made sure that whoever she ran had fun doing it regardless of how much faster she was. Watching the guy on the beautiful slammed air cooled 250R whip it around was something else.

Friday things went into high gear. The MX races were on and people were pouring in. I’d never raced on an MX track in my life, but was suddenly up for two of them in the same hour. I managed to get my right foot punched with a wheel at the start of the first race and land on my face during the second race, but no bones were broken, so I’m pretty thrilled about that. I also finished the first race with the farthest trike jump of my life and possibly the ugliest landing too. If anyone has a clip of that I’d love to see it as my volunteer camera guy kept the best shots in his cup that morning WINK. By night time my eyes were trying to stay shut every time I blinked, so I crashed early and stayed off the trails.

Saturday was the photo, drags, parade and awards, busy, busy, busy! I’d planned to cook for the camp that night and ended up making burgers by the light of the moon. The drags were a blast even though I didn’t get far. It was a little disappointing to be the only Yamaha in the mod class, but I was happy to get the jetting sorted out and not get blown out of the water. Finding out the track was about 30% shorter than I had been running it all week long added an “OMG” element in the morning as I rushed back to the camp to drop the gearing after the riders meeting, but now I know what to expect in the future. Tim K. came by on his KTM that afternoon and we went for a short trail ride on the bikes that afternoon. The awards were given out right in front of our camp, so all I had to do to get ready was turn my chair 180 degrees. I was given a plaque for distance traveled and the geriatric race and won a jar of Joe’s donated honey. Billy even nominated me for a rookie of the year. A special (and fast!) young man won that plaque, but I was honored to be up there with all the other first timers that were called. Everyone was a winner just for coming to TF.

That evening I could see the crowd was getting younger and more party oriented. More vehicles without lights, more quads & side by sides and more young drunken faces. I’m old enough to know when to stay home so that’s just what I did during the herk & jerk. I enjoyed my last night with Jeswinehart, Howdy’s crew and a few others as the sounds and smells of the herk & jerk wafted over the pond and into the camp.

As I walked to John’s rig for my last sleep at Haspin I remember thinking to myself “Is that it? Did a week just pass by in what seemed like only a few hours?” While the thought of getting home to the family was motivating, the thought of leaving the place and people that I had spent the week with was saddening. There wasn’t one person I wish I’d spent less time with, or one event, or ride I wished hadn’t lasted so long.

Sunday I was up at 7:30 and Jeswinehart already had the coffee made. We were joined by a few other early risers and then it was time to say goodbye  I took one last slow lap around the park in my truck and waved goodbye to all who were up before pulling out of the gate and seeing Billy packing up and waving to him. Then as though it was planned, the last person I saw and waved goodbye to was Dale, the same person who first welcomed me to TF 9 days earlier.

Thank you to everyone who made this an awesome week, I sure hope I can make it back soon.

I want to chime in that for anyone reading who isn't familiar, Haspin Acres is a offroad ATV park, and while during Trikefest we typically represent the largest group, the park still has regular patrons. Many of the trucks and quads are not affiliated with us but we still have to share the park with them. Just an FYI>

I'm still going to TF every chance I get. I've been to way worse than a couple altercations, some brief nudity, thievery, and drunken mayhem and for a helluva lot less reward. It's still safer than most other motorsport rally/festivals I've attended.

I know we would like a family friendly atmosphere and I prefer that too but I haven't heard anything yet that has changed my mind about attending again.

Haspin always has and always will have a rowdy crowd on weekends in season. No changing that. You can only influence the content of the trike portion of that crowd but you're at the mercy of everyone else Haspin caters to unless you can rent the whole place and shut the gates and I doubt that's even an option and if so, astronomical cost.

It sucks about the river but in two years, me and son only spent five minutes there so it's not a deal breaker for us if we couldn't ride down there anymore....or into town like before for ice, pizza, and drinks.

Nico,

It was so good to finally meet you, ride, hang out, have a few "mitchelayties"

Your account reminds me of how I felt and what it was like for me, my very first year back in 2004. All these people I'd been talking to for so long, finally meeting and hanging out with them and getting to really know them, and yet already knowing them at the same time. Pretty surreal really. I'm glad you had such a good time - and I hope you'll be back for many more Trikefests to come! I have quite a few good pics of you racing I am still going through I'll share with you once I get all of them wrapped up so you can show the wife and friends back at home what you spent a week doing :)

What I also finished the first race with the farthest trike jump of my life and possibly the ugliest landing too.

I was clenched up just watching that landing. I was glad to see you had the mad skills (or luck) to pull it off. Actually it must've been skill because you beat KTMTim to the checkered flag. Geriatric class just gets faster and faster every year. In any case, great ride!!

As I walked to John’s rig for my last sleep at Haspin I remember thinking to myself “Is that it? Did a week just pass by in what seemed like only a few hours?”

This phenomenon blows my mind every year. How can 4 days go by so fast?! I am starting to be convinced that there is some sort of time warp zone we enter in southern Indiana. Anyone who has ever been to TrikeFest must know what I am talking about. I am awake 19-21 hours per day at Haspin and it's still just the blink of an eye.

I really enjoyed reading your 'recap' post, Nico. It was actually a joy to read and one of the best posts I have seen in a long time.
It was also a real pleasure to finally meet you. Hoping you get to come back sooner rather than later.

Nico, speaking of the pass at the checkered flag in Geriatric Class - that was me you passed for a podium spot, dag gum it! As I started to crest the finish line jump, that familiar orange and white Tri-Z came flying by me - nose high, and I thought "holy crap". It was a great race and I am glad we got to run it together. Looking back I wish we could have actually geared up for a good KTM rip through the park, bud sadly, as others have mentioned, the time seems to be a most valuable asset that we can not seem to have enough of at TF. It was a real pleasure meeting you and hanging out with you. Hope to see you again soon.

Next time turn around while you in the staging lane us Yamaha guys need to stick together. If your not careful a herd of 250R's might run you right over. I don't blame you for not noticing me cause I lost the first round and retreated back to camp to get out of the sun. It was great to meet and spend some time talking. I wish you could have ridden my Z but i spent most my time on the trails and almost zero at the drag strip. Thanks for the sprocket, you saved my weekend. Let me know how many teeth you want and i'll send you one.
