A few months ago I picked up an 86 atc125m without an engine with the plan of stripping it down and fixing it to make a decent rider out of. This is it (the yellow one) sitting next to one of my other 86's.

Once I seen it in person I quickly realized that someone had cut the steering neck off of it and welded one on from a 200 along with the wheel/hub. Needless to say they did a pretty poor job and since the front wheel spacers were cobbled together with all thread and nuts I decided to make it a part bike.

Pretty awesome weld huh? Lol
So fast forward to the last few days. I had the frame kicking around and was tired of seeing it not getting any use. I have all of the parts to make it a complete bike other than the original front end (forks/headlight/dash/ect..)
I got to thinking that the 2nd gen 125m's have similar tank lines as a 250sx and i just happened to have set of forks for one from a parts bike I picked up months ago so I mocked them up.

All I should need is an sx steering neck and some proper reinforcement and this should be good to go. Any thoughts? Lol

the rake inst quite right but its a great idea. What motor are you going to put in it?

I haven't cut off the old neck yet and I will need to find a 250sx one to weld on. Basically right now its just an idea. I have 2 possible engines to use. One is from an atc 125m and the other is from a trx125. Both are basically the same.

I have a frame and need to get to Gregs soon.

Those engines are not basically the same they are completely identical. This looks like an interesting build I wish you luck.

Did a little bit of research and confirmed that the steering neck and front forks came from a 1982 200E.

Why they did it I'll never know but I figure with a better weld and some bracing a 250sx neck can be welded on to give me options for front suspension. Only reason I want to use the sx parts is I already have them on hand.

Well over 2 years later I figured It was time to stop procrastinating and get on this build lol. I had a guy that can weld way better than myself weld the stem to the frame and weld the brace back on. I don't have pictures yet of just the stem welded on yet but I have basically mocked up most of the trike. I'm still scrounging around looking for stashed parts so it could be a while lol. I also have to weld up some steering stops and an exhaust mount that's missing.
My plan is to do the tank in white with decals like the 86 sx but with 125 thrown in somewhere. I'm also going to try and find another white headlight shroud in better shape or use the red one I have on another sx. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181106/5750396b7facb6258a2f74731ea0db91.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181106/51508bff793dbc97edd4371ee77f8ff6.jpg

Could you post a picture or two of the stem area? I'd like to see how that was done....if it ain't too much trouble.

It was pretty simple with the way the previous owner cut the tube off. That gave me a solid base to have the sx stem welded to. I cut the support from the old stem and down tube and reused it on the with the new stem.
