Hi again, I am going to start a thread and add some photos in the upcoming months about some 86 KXT's I bought. I run out of time most of the time but I am building a couple to race (otherwise known as participate).
So real quick like. One Tecate has a PVL ignition and I heard it run and it was revved up a little by the guy who sold it. I have a compression tester and leak down tester but haven't gotten to test yet. Also, I haven't taken the cover off to see if the power valve seems to be not broken, free and clean. I'm not really sure what to look at until I can look a little at the book about that and get the wrenches out. Maybe someone knows where to jiggle.
Now one thing I did do is go through the carburetor with a rebuild kit. This thing has the Mikuni vm34ss that is correct for the 86. A V-20 stamped on the outside of the carburetor body. The manual says it is a flat r bottom type, anyway.....I bought this in an area with close to the same elevation as my elevation, 1,130 ft. This machine only has a 210 main and the book and the other KXT are around the stock 270 main. What/s going on here? Is there a broken power valve system and a smaller jet was put in to make it run better? A jet with a different number system for it's manufacturer's jet sizes? This KXT came from the Black Mountain in Harlan, Ky. I got photos of the jet but need to search how to post them.
The man I bought it from said it runs and drives but did not relay to me of a power valve problem or any air leaks or compression issues. Basically drove all weekend to pick it up so I don't think he had to worry about me rejecting it. So.... wanting some guesses, I suppose. They (both) have not been started since getting them home.
I am excited to hear your thoughts!
Can we get a sunny day Bar-bee-Q at trike fest "heck yes" come on.
