Searched but couldn't find a direct answer - is the 400ex front master cylinder a direct replacement for the factory one? If so will the master cylinder guard fit over it?

yes, it will. But your front brake will be much stronger and you may have to use quad brake lever also.

I was going to go with ASV levers. And the master cylinder guard will fit as well?

I use a 400EX master on the front of my 350X. Not exactly the same part. Will bolt on if that's what you mean by "direct replacement".

Are there any modifications needed to make it fit ? Will it fit into my stock brake line? Do you know if the master cylinder guard will fit over?

every master cylinder made for offroad and street bike from japan uses the same 10mm banjo bolt. If you want a new one go to my ebay PM for for the name or link and buy the ones I sell. They are universal and work. I run YZ85 on my 200x with ASV levers. Its not rocket science.

I use a 450r master on 3 of my bikes. The guard will not fit on the 450r master. It's a little tall. But it works great cheap replacement with clear sight glass.
