I'm thinking on building my 200x for a track racer. I always ride coal and have never even been on a track, but would really like to get into it. What are the best suspension upgrades for the 2nd gen x on a track? jumps and all?

Send your shock to onformula1 so he can shim it, add a better spring if needed and set it up for your weight and terrain. You could go with a works quadstar but he can set you up 10x better for less. Same goes for forks.

I'm going to message him to see what he can do for me, what about bolt ons? Extended axle, maybe fork swap? 10 inch front rim? What bolt ons really help on a track

It's all about preference, start with tires, 'track' is pretty bland. Flat? MX? Drag?

Mx, with jumps and everything, I'm just wondering what most guys use that ride track I have no experience at all and isn't easy for me to get on a track to test things out all the time

Extended axle helps. Start looking for +6 Finishline, NASA second gen aftermarket axles. I believe durablue still makes an extended axle. Some guys swear by fork swaps, but I never needed to. Oldskool83 knows all about what fits where for fork swaps. If you want to run a 10" front rim it will open up more tire choices, contact xowner to see if he has any left from his last group buy.

Wide and stable with good, usable HP/torque helps you on a track. As far as tire choices go, I raced with Hoosier crossblock for flat track and have used their knobbies, both are great tires.

83-84 R forks and use all your front end stuff. Keep your OEM rear shock and have it set up and redone. There are a few places, KB5 MX race shops, onformula1 on here, SRS on ebay. Shortline on here strightens forks and can rebuild them for you. I have left him do a few sets and its very quick and fair on the price...I ship from PA to FL

Swing arms...If you contact HRE (www.hreatv.com) he has an 86-87 one made to accept trx300ex stuff which would all be a bolt on. If not you need to use 83-84 250r axle. OEM will be wider or spend the coing for plus 2 one $500. If you need to keep it in budged I sell billet 1" spacers for all toys on ebay. Just look me up.

If you want to put a 300ex axle in factory 200x carrier you can but your gonna need spacers and adaptors done up so HRE would need to do that. I put one in my 85 200x arm and HRE was impressed how easy it was to do...I had done most of the research upfront.

Wider is better. If I were you I would start with an extended axle (or wheel spacers if you are on a budget).
Then get to the track and see how it feels. No use going too crazy with suspension and swingarm mods until you know what you have in relation to your racing ability.

Breezewood, PA is this weekend. Are you going? I think they even have a 200X class.
If you show up there, you will see every sort of racing mod. Pay attention to what others have and ask what worked and what didn't for them.
Where else are you thinking of MX racing? You live in the right area being close to Ohio and NY.

Just start by making your trike wider, to improve your cornering.
Next step might be tires. What tires are you currently running?
For me, suspension mods would be down on the list (unless your forks or shock are roached already).

Last piece of advice: Only change one thing at a time. Changing multiple parts simultaneously can lead to confusion.
Good luck!

The axle is the first thing I plan to get. The only ones I can find are 83-84 250r axles (anyone have an overall measurement of one of these stock?) and +6 first gen 200x axles. The +6 first gen axles are 39 1/2 inches long, and my stock 86 axle is only 30 1/2, would the +6 be too long on a track? I have 22x11x9 tech 4 Xc on the rear right now. Breezewood is about 2 1/2 hours for me, there's a place called Evansville mx track that is the closest to me, I need to see if they allow trikes there.

I was also thinking about going with the swingarm from hreatv that oldskool said that takes a 300ex axle. There's just a couple choices for rear axles and I'm not really sure which is the best one. I'm not on that tight of a budget, but I'm definitely not shelling out $650 to durablue for one of their second gen 250r axles

+ 6 is perfectly fine for racing.

You can throw 22" tires away from any track 18's only. Just put in a 2nd gen 250R axle in it and throw 400ex hubs on it with 8inch 3in 5out offset rims. You will be about 47" inches then. That's enough to get the feel of how the turn / slide when they are wide.

It would technically be +9 for the second gen since the first gen is is already 3 inches longer, but I thought it would probably be ok if the first gen uses them

Do you have a stock 84 250r you would be able to get me the measurement of? I was leaning towards an extended one because hopefully it wouldn't be 35 years old

No I don't. Stock 83-84 250R's were 44" on centered 8x8 rims. Just like a stock 200X was

Your 86-87 200x hubs are the same as trx250x/300ex/400ex so no point buying more.
I sell these if you want to try them, cant really loose money if you like racing and want to resell them.

a plus 4 axle but if you use your offset hub you only really need plus 2. They make extended hubs also. Many options out there. There's prob about 2 people who will pay this for an axle...considering I wont that's why I modifed my swinger for a +4 300ex axle I got new for $180 with life warranty.

Alright thank you, I was thinking about ordering these rear wheels. Not sure where the .5 comes from? http://www.motosport.com/itp-t9-pro-baja-wheel?mmy=honda;trx400ex;2005&mmy_source=pdp

they are 3inch in and 5.5inches out from the center of the wheel. They will work fine. I just run OEM LT450R rims now. I've had them before and they are fine.

http://www.motosport.com/rock-aluminum-wheel I have these on my banshee and the fit and finish and strength is just as strong as ITP. Aluminum is Aluminum .125" rims stay away from, they taco and do not last at all.

I liked LTR450 oem rear tires the best, they slid awesome

You know a 2nd gen 200x axle carrier area is only about .25" narrower then a 300ex one. Uses same bearings you'd just need to spacer over rear rotor hub assembly. Its not hard to do this stuff. 1st gen was way harder then 2nd gen. I put a 300ex axle in a 2nd gen already to prove it works but that's all.

Im using a plus 6 Durablue from an 82 atc 250r. Its a direct Bolton using 82 250r sprocket. Im planning to upgrade to either 2nd or 3rd gen 250r frontend. I have a DG plus 2 swingarm going on the back with either 83 or 84 250r rear shock. The rear of my 200x is 48 inches . Good suspension with slight modded motor is best to start MX racing with. Im running 18 inch rear tires. 230440 230441
