The atc90's newer than yours have the fine splined axles and hubs and fit in your carrier and are readily available cheap on ebay. the stuff you have is much more valuable and if your balloon tires are not rotted or over inflated and hold air they are worth a fair amount and hard to come by.

Welcome to the madness! Members here are glad to help as referenced with "gimmeamidget's" posting above, I have done the exact process to a '70 US90. Do post up some pic's as most of us like to see survivors.

Unlatch the rear fender/seat and see if the tire pump is still attached to the frame or if the tool kit is still there. Those are good items to have and that 74 looks to be in decent shape too.

You stole that for $40. Get it home and cleaned up and get some good pictures. Nice score! You can also get adapter plates to mount newer rims on to the 3 bolt coarse splined hubs. I bought some tire and rims with the plates off a member here so I don't know where to get them exactly.

That was a nice bike when it was parked.
Great buy for $40!

does the front wheel require a spacer like the rears?

If using the original balloon tire front hub and axle then yes an adapter plate is needed. The better option is to buy a later year model '75 - '80 wheel, tire and axle assembly.
