I just recently found out that honda made speedometer/tachometer for trikes. After looking online and how rare they are im wondering if there is an aftermarket speedo i can use. Maybe a dirtbike/street bike will work?

Been gone through a million times. Have a search and you will find all sorts of stuff on it. But in a nutshell, only trike specific stuff will work on ATC's. Especially the gearbox assemblies.

Drag specialties makes a tach that works well on the Honda 4 stroke tachs.

I have seen motor cycle speedo drive gears adapted to trikes that work well,,, 350XL comes to mind but please do your research.

Hi John. Do you have experience with these aftermarket tachometers on the 350x? Would love to get one for mine but won't be shelling out for a Hondaline one anytime soon.

Yes I do Matt. Compared to Hondaline tachs the rpm's don't fall off as quick as Hondaline but still very acceptable.
They are also available in black faced in case you wanted that instead of white.
Very simple to hook up.

Wow sounds pretty cool then, must look into one of them. Don't suppose you make a handy mounting bracket like the one you made me for my speedo, which is fantastic by the way! ;)

I just mount my GPS on my trikes.

I consider RPM to be more important than MPH. There are almost unlimited options for electronic tachs that use ignition signal to operate.

FYI I already used the search function

Does the tach wire to the ignition coil or the spark plug wire?

At the coil,,,, uses a jumper on the black/white striped trigger wire.
Other 2 wires are ground and 12 volt power.
As I recall there is no light wire.
I'll post up a couple pics tonight after work of my tach mounts for the custom hand made tachs I done several years ago for 2 stroke trikes.
Plus where the honda line or drag speciltes tachs wire in at coil.

Here is picture of a Honda line "trigger" wire that piggy backs allowing for a lead wire to your tach to fire each time the coil gets its signal to fire the plug.
The piggy back connectors are readily available at auto parts stores.

This is the teardrop style I used for mounting my tachs on anything other then 2 stroke Honda ( yamaha, kawasaki )
I simply cut out and had powder coated. U bolt type of clamp to handle bars. Honda I would make the oem style mount but fitting my tach canisters.

This particular tach is for 2 stroke,,,, vintage Bultoco (spelling ?)
but recall seeing same for 4 stroke single fire set up.
I'm thinking there are still a few of these floating around on ebay,,, perhaps not ~ ain't looked in years now,,, no need.
