Any advice on installing the kick start assembly on a 85 Tri-Z? I can't get the spring to stay in the hole in the case once its wound. The kick clip and stop are in the right place. Both the spring and kick clip are new.

Try laying the Atv on its side when installing the cover .

I have the engine out of the frame laying on a table and it wont stay long enough to get the cover on.

You can do it. It takes a few try's and like Shortline says, laying the engine on its left side helps. Its been a while, but I recall that I had to use my hands to hold the spring as I was installing it and that it seems off a little as you start to line the cover up, but it finds its place as the cover nears the case. Just don't force anything.

Make sure the hole the spring goes in is clean and its seating all the way down inside correctly ive never had any trouble with spring popping out on a z

I'm thinking I dont have something right or I was sent the wrong spring. Once I get the clip and stop in place it takes almost a full turn to get the spring back to where it needs to be. It would be almost impossible to turn it with the clutch hub in place.

It does need to have some tension on it, but I don't recall what % of a turn it takes.

I don't think it's much of a turn once it's seated in the case properly.. maybe 15 / 20 degrees?
