View Full Version : Honda ATC 250ES Clutch locknut

I took these things apart way to long ago and don't remember the direction they go back on. :P
They have a small sleeve on them, are those designed to crush against the washer facing inside? I assumed the washer fit over top of the sleeve but they don't.

Thanks Rob but it's difficult to tell for sure from the diagram (that was the first place I looked, it's #16) - I was hoping someone remembered from when they took theirs off.

The shop manual doesn't specify direction either, which is odd considering this is a specialized one way bolt!

That's not a crush sleeve. That extended sleeve portion should be away from the washer that you tighten up against. The point of that sleeve is that you will use a punch and dimple that sleeve over a hole in the shaft to form a locking mechanism.

I did a quick google search just to show you the idea of staking that locknut. Here is a guy's webpage where he shows the locknut staked (dimpled down into the groove of the shaft).
