I don't have the cash or space to buy a hydraulic bender. and frankly I don't think I need it. has anyone tried to bend 1" steel tubing with a pipe bender? like the ones you would use to bend conduit? I could also fill the tubing with sand, heat and bend. but looking for the 2nd easiest way out and i think thats the conduit bender.. anyone done this?

What size tubing are you wanting to bend? And do you know the thickness? I've bent lots of EMT and rigid steel.
1" and smaller is fairly easy with a little practice. I keep even pressure in 3 points all the way through the bend. Left foot down on bender, left hand on handle, right hand on the pipe bending up.
You can also flip the bender over so the handle is on the ground and do your bends in the air.
The sand sounds like a good idea.

Ok. So maybe the conduit bender isn't a good choice for you. Try asking someone at your work about using their roll bender or even harbor freight.
