I have a very nice 250r that I took in on trade that was completely restore frame off everything power coated all nuts and bolts redone with Allen bolts. I recently took it out and the thing runs great thru all the gear has good power everywhere bottom end top end idles good does skip a beat. Yesterday when I was riding it which I don't ride it very often just sits in the garage. I was cruising down the road 3/4 throttle just cruising, then it was like someone turned off my gas. The engine almost stalled I pulled in the clutch tried to rev it up, down shifted and then it starting running good again. Did not think anything of it kept driving it a little further down the road, then did it again same thing keeps feeling like it's running out of fuel. This time I stopped turned it off took the air lid off (it has stock air box with cover on it). Started it back up continued down the road once it heated up again started to die down same thing let off the throttle for a sec or so down shift then it would go away. Did that for a couple times on me unsure of where to start any advice. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160809/269eeead2bf1353374732895933350fd.jpghttps://vimeo.com/178109040

I've had a similar problem in the past that turned out to be a coil wire that was not making a good connection.
I suspected my issue was fuel related, until the coil wire came apart in my hand.
May be worth checking out.

Ok I'll check it out hard to pinpoint because it will only happen when driving at 3/4 to full throttle when it gets hot. Will idle all day can run it around but when it's going down the road and gets hot

if you were running out of fuel you would probably notice a runaway -- high revving situation before it just cut off. i would begin with going thru the electrical system. after all it is 30 yrs old.

Couple other things to check ,vent hose for fuel tank,Iv have the coil go bad on my 85 it would start and idle fine but any thing over half throttle it would bog down.

Thanks guys I have a coil on order from service Honda, see what that does for it. I did check the vent tube and the gas tank cover both are getting air thru them. Checked my vent lines on the carb as well no blockage

So finally got the R checked out whomever rebuilt the motor prior to me owning it put the crank seal in crooked. So it's getting new seals also the counter balancer was off by 8 teeth so good thing it was tore down!

The top end gasket was also turned over on a corner. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161006/4b5d41a9f48b6bd4393a7d9175934296.jpg
So the culprit was an air leak to make it run like it was

.
Always best to do a leak test on the cases even if it has been repaired.

They do that sometimes. That particular crank seal doesn't get pressed in flush its actually pressed in 6MM past the outer lip of that case. What happens is over time that seal moves in the bore and gets distorted. I would make double sure your crank is true before reassembling the cases. My bet is its out quite a bit.

The seal behind the stator like stated above is recessed the oem stator has a moulded collar on it that sits in the space outside the seal.

Call Carlos at BDT. They machine new ones with an upgraded O-ring.
