Can anyone tell me what is supposed to keep oil from entering the left side where you would check the timing with a timing light. When I unscrew that top to check timing I get oil spitting out all over. I have been told it should be dry but can't tell what or why oil is getting in there.
Help, Thanks:wondering

Thanks for the feedback. When I had the left side apart it was hard to see how it would be dry. Perhaps the opening at the top of the left side is to only check timing with the engine off and see how the T mark lines up with the cam. There was no way to do with a timing light, just got spattered with oil when I took the cap off.
